Operating Room circulating Nurse Job description: Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and highly organized Operating Room Circulating Nurse to join our supportive and collaborative surgical team. In this essential role, you will coordinate and oversee patient care throughout surgical procedures, helping to maintain a safe, efficient, and sterile environment while ensuring smooth communication among the surgical team. As the Circulating Nurse, you will oversee and coordinate activities in the operating room to ensure each procedure runs safely and efficiently. You'll verify patient information and consents, confirm the surgical site, ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available, and maintain accurate documentation throughout the case. Working outside the sterile field, you will perform safety checks and surgical counts with the scrub team, facilitate communication among team members, and advocate for the patient at all times. Duties Help the scrub tech prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment, supplies, and sterile instruments are available and functioning properly before procedures begin. Act as the primary liaison between the surgical team and support staff, facilitating communication and workflow throughout the procedure. Monitor aseptic technique adherence to maintain a sterile environment and prevent infections during surgeries. Assist with patient positioning, safety checks, and documentation of intraoperative activities. Observe and respond promptly to any intraoperative changes or emergencies Document all aspects of patient care accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Circulate for ophthalmic procedures such as cataract surgery, glaucoma procedures, oculoplastic procedures, and laser treatments. Maintain accurate surgical counts and verify lens implants and power selection with the surgical team. Provide patient education regarding pre-operative preparation and post-operative eye care instructions. Serve as the responsible team member for initiating and documenting the surgical time out, ensuring 100% compliance with patient safety protocols before the start of every ophthalmic procedure. Requirements Valid nursing license (RN) with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Proven experience in an operating room setting with OR experience preferred; familiarity with aseptic technique essential. Knowledge of ophthalmic surgical procedures, including pre-operative and post-operative patient care, is desirable. Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and physiology relevant to surgical care. Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient care coordination. Willingness and ability to cross-train in multiple areas of the ASC, including Pre-Op and PACU. Comfortable in assisting with pre-operative patient phone calls, providing clear instructions regarding surgery preparation, medications, arrival times, and post-operative care expectations. Flexible team player with the ability to adapt to changing daily assignments.
