Full-time JOB Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations or designee, is responsible for the supervision, scheduling and coordinating of heavy equipment operators, equipment operators and mechanics engaged in street and sidewalk maintenance, snow and ice control and removal, storm drains, and limited automotive or equipment maintenance.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Supervises a crew of equipment operators, heavy equipment operators, and mechanics engage in the repair of potholes, walkways, curbs, clearing excess debris, leaves and papers and occasional hazmat and medical waste, emergency services such as installing road plates and performing brining, salting and sanding services before, during and after storms and road accidents.

Works with crews engaged in cleaning and maintaining catch basins, manholes and the storm sewer systems.

Works with other departments and contractors in the detection and repair of pipe breakage using specialized cameras.

Inspects work to ensure conformance with given standards and makes necessary adjustments in assignments and methods to correct deficiencies. Oversees the scheduling and activities of staff; plans, assigns, trains, directs, and monitors staff duties.

Assist Road Maintenance Supervisor in the preparation, administering and monitoring of the budget.

Maintains records of materials, equipment and labor assigned to jobs; maintains records of sufficient detail to indicate total job cost when completed.

Processes time and attendance; coordinates vacation and sick leave.

Performs related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and five years of public works experience involving the operating of all levels of equipment, and experience in construction, repair and maintenance of roads and sidewalks including lead or supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be trained in safety, OSHA and Haz-Mat recognition and handling. Possession of a valid drivers' license. Commercial Drivers' License (CDL) preferred.

Scope of Examination
  • Operations Foreman (Road Maintenance)The examination process will consist of two components, each weighted equally.
The Training and Experience Evaluation (50%) will assess candidates' relevant work history, including experience in road maintenance, supervision, equipment use, and safety practices through supplementary questions. The written examination (50%) will evaluate candidates' knowledge of road maintenance operations, safety standards, and supervisory practices.

Final scores will be based on the combined results of both components.
