Job Title:
Operations Manager - Production and Manufacturing Job Description This role oversees day-to-day operations in a production and manufacturing environment, ensuring labor, productivity, and quality control targets are consistently met. The Operations Manager leads process improvement initiatives, manages inventory and equipment utilization, and supports a positive customer experience by resolving issues and maintaining high service standards. This position also plays a key role in budgeting, policy enforcement, and aligning operations with engineering and program management objectives. Responsibilities Manage overall operations and assume responsibility for the effective and successful management of labor, productivity, and quality control in a production and manufacturing environment. Select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline employees in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Communicate job expectations clearly by planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing employee job contributions. Plan and review compensation actions while enforcing company policies and procedures. Participate in the preparation of the annual budget and support cost control initiatives. Manage processes for receiving product, optimizing equipment utilization, overseeing inventory management, and coordinating shipping activities. Analyze process workflows, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout, then implement changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Manage staff levels and wage structures to align with operational needs and budgetary constraints. Act as the primary point of contact when customer issues arise related to equipment quality or customer service, ensuring timely resolution. Communicate customer issues with the operations team and devise ways to improve the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints. Work closely with the team to analyze inventory and ensure inventory is utilized effectively, appropriate equipment is purchased, and accurate inventory data is maintained. Delegate work based on incoming orders to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment. Issue Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) and generate customer quotes as needed. Forecast material requirements for future orders to support production planning and on-time delivery. Approve worker hours and vacation time in alignment with operational requirements and company policies. Organize annual employee training programs in accordance with ISO standards. Communicate with customers and the sales team via email to support order status, inquiries, and issue resolution. Follow up with vendors as needed to ensure timely delivery of materials, resolve supply issues, and maintain strong supplier relationships. Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations, focusing on efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and program management to align operational practices with technical and project requirements. Essential Skills 5 to 10 years of operational management experience in a production or manufacturing environment. Proven experience in operations management, including oversight of labor, productivity, and quality control. Strong background in production management and continuous improvement methodologies. Demonstrated ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Experience managing processes for receiving, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping. Ability to analyze process workflows, space and staffing requirements, and equipment layout, and implement effective changes. Competence in staff planning, scheduling, and delegation based on operational demand and incoming orders. Experience handling customer issues related to equipment quality and customer service, with a focus on improving customer experience. Proficiency in issuing RMAs, generating customer quotes, and forecasting material requirements. Strong communication skills for coordinating with customers, sales teams, vendors, and internal operations teams. Ability to organize and manage annual employee training in alignment with ISO standards. Solid understanding of budgeting processes and experience contributing to annual budget preparation. Capability to manage employee hours, vacation approvals, and compensation actions in line with policies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering. Experience working in an engineering-driven production or manufacturing environment. Exposure to program management and collaboration with engineering and production teams. Familiarity with ISO standards and related training requirements. Strong analytical skills for inventory analysis, equipment purchasing decisions, and maintaining accurate inventory data. Ability to shape and support engineering standards, documentation, and operational processes. Interest in continuous improvement and operational excellence within a growing organization. Comfort working in an environment with significant capital investment and a long-term growth trajectory. Ability to influence at a senior level without direct people management overhead beyond operational supervision. Work Environment The role operates within a standard engineering work environment that includes a combination of cubicles and offices for engineering staff, with all production activities conducted on-site. The position involves close collaboration with production, engineering, and operations teams in a facility-focused setting. The workday is typically structured around on-site operations, where access to production areas, equipment, and inventory is essential for effective management and continuous improvement. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Ronkonkoma, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $140000.00 - $160000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
