Job Description

Purpose:
To provide an initial, welcoming presence to guests entering the Railroad. The operations team staff the railroad ticket office during open hours, interact with customers, and assist guests by answering questions, selling tickets, and showing merchandise. Assist with making sales using a point of sales cash register. Help with inventory and stocking shelves. All team functions allow the company to carry out its mission of interpreting the Sierra National Forest and preserving the historic railroad. This is an entry level position for all train service operations. Team members will start out in the station selling tickets, merchandise, and welcoming guests.
Timeframe:
A schedule will be established for each team member within the railroad's hours of operation. The ability to work weekends is desirable. Regular schedules and on-call schedules are both available options. Work shifts can vary from day to day, with later hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the summer months. This job is seasonal between the months of April to January.
Specific duties:
Greet visitors in the station. Answer questions regarding the site, and make touring recommendations. Retail sales, point of sale cash register, and some food service. In addition to being on the operations team, an ability to be a team player to the company and complete a variety of jobs as needed. Flexibility is greatly desirable. Operations team members will be trained in train service operations.
Qualifications/Skills:
Outgoing, professional and friendly disposition. Ability to communicate orally and answer questions accurately or seek assistance when required. A knowledge of other regional attractions helpful. Use of tact and professionalism when dealing with the public. Ability to operate a cash register and make change. Operations team members will need to be familiar and memorize the guest experience narration. Ability to operate a manual transmission is desirable. The job will require you to be on your feet for most of the day.
