Job Description

Graystone Eye is looking for an individual who is willing to serve our patients with one vision in mind: Achieving Exemplary Exemplary Clinical Outcomes & Providing an Unparalleled Experience for Patients, Employees, and Families
JOB SUMMARY
This individual fills ophthalmic eyeglass prescriptions and fits and adapts lenses and frames by performing the duties detailed below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Stacks, straightens, and cleans frame boards as necessary. Determines client's current lens prescription, when necessary, using lensometer or lens analyzer and client's eyeglasses. Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs. Under supervision assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription. Under supervision, measures client's bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes. Under supervision, prepares work order and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses. Under supervision, verifies finished lenses are ground to specification. With supervision, heats, shapes, or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit client. Instructs clients in adapting to, wearing, and caring for eyeglasses. Evaluates and does preliminary assessments of problems with patient's eyeglasses. Sells optical goods such as binoculars, plano sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low vision aids. Repairs damaged frames as well as screws, nose pads and temple pins. Performs hinge repairs and holders. Computes amount of sale. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School education Optical-related experience preferred Certification within one year of hire to retain position

Strong communication and interpersonal skills Problem-solver with analytical skills Personable; empathetic with patient's needs and concerns Well-organized with attention to detail Ability to work as a team member Demonstrated computer literacy Willingness and ability to travel to satellite locations
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos Ability to write sample correspondence Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITIES
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
