POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties:

Optometric Technicians help optometrists in a variety of tasks and ensure their office's operations run smoothly and efficiently. Optometric Technicians performs much of the preparatory work for examinations, a series of duties that include the maintenance and calibration of vision testing equipment, the application of various pre-examination tests for incoming patients, and clerical duties, such as scheduling appointments, distributing prescribed items, and performing general maintenance (including cleaning and sanitizing the office and examination room). Help ensure that patients have an excellent experience in the optometry office, have a welcoming demeanor and a willingness to help patients with any issues and explaining prost-care instructions. The technician should be a versatile, hardworking individual with an eye for detail. The technician will also help with clinic duties as needed. Specific Duties Take patient history and perform preliminary examination of patient. Assist Optometrist with examinations and maintain patient charts. Explain eye exercises to patients and may monitor vision therapy. Order prescription eyewear. Obtains Insurance Authorization. Answers telephone. General office duties. Other duties, as assigned. Physical Requirements:

The primary portion of work is in a well-lit, ventilated, and air-conditioned facility. It may require prolonged, extensive sitting/standing. Position may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and/or use of tactile information. The individual must be able to express ideas or exchange thoughts by means of talking, hearing, reading, and/or writing. The individual should have motor coordination, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, eye-hand-foot coordination. This position may include transporting objects, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Qualifications and Education Requirements No prior experience necessary; preferred knowledge of employee health record, Microsoft office. Basic computer skills required.
