Primary Purpose:
Under the supervision of, and in conjunction with the Director of the Westlake Community Performing Arts Director, supervise the technical aspects and equipment within the Performing Arts Center. Instruct and train Technical Theatre and Technical Theatre Production students. Supervise the student television broadcasts and student video productions produced in the Performing Arts Center and Football Stadium. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular technical theatre activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Provide technical support for all events that take place in the Performing Arts Center. Supervise students during these events, ensuring the safest environment and highest level of technical production.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operation of a Performing Arts Center and the equipment therein Extensive experience with large format Live Sound Engineering at a professional level Experience with sound reinforcement of large orchestra and rock band situations Experience with Yamaha Digital Mixing consoles Ability to safely construct professional quality theatrical scenery with students Knowledge of professional level theatrical lighting, audio, video, scenic construction and counterweight fly systems Experience with ETC EOS Family of lighting consoles Knowledge of professional level television broadcast equipment and video equipment Extensive knowledge of safety in a theatre environment Ability to manage and supervise students and staff during theatrical events and productions Strong communication, leadership, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Three years working in a professional theatre environment, high school performing arts center or collegiate theatre environment
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Production and Rehearsal:
Attend technical and dress rehearsals and performances for all theatrical performances and major productions in the Performing Arts Center. Attend high school and district evening concerts that take place in the Performing Arts Center. Supervise students, technicians, performers and patrons during these events. Attend rehearsals, productions, broadcasts, concerts, rentals and theatrical events. These may take place on weekday evenings and weekends. Supervise and manage students during production crew calls, rehearsals and performances. Assist the Westlake Community PAC Director and PAC Operations Director in the day-to-day operations of the theatres. Assist in the process of cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and storing theatrical and video equipment. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and board policy in the technical theatre area. Support technical theatre student club activities. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs. Recommend policies to improve the program. Assist in Direction of Westlake football television broadcast and stadium video projects.
Student Management:
Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Instruction:
Instruct students on the operation of technical theatre and video production equipment Ongoing curriculum development reflection new equipment and policies
Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, rental clients, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with supervisor, colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Work collaboratively with the other Performing Arts Center staff and members of the
Eanes ISD Fine Arts Department Personnel Management:
Assist with recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of student employees
Other:
Maintain Confidentiality Other duties as assigned Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Monitor the performance of technical theatre students and part-time employees during all crew calls, construction calls, rehearsals, performances, rentals, video productions, etc…
