Job Title:
Packager Job Description The Packager plays a key role in preparing products for shipment by safely packaging, labeling, and organizing materials in a busy sheet metal manufacturing environment. This position supports both shipping and receiving activities and helps maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient warehouse to ensure accurate and timely deliveries to customers. Responsibilities Prepare items for shipment by placing products in boxes or on pallets and securely banding them for transport. Mark boxes and packaged materials clearly with part numbers and job names to ensure accurate identification and traceability. Move materials and packaged items to the shipping area or other designated locations within the facility using appropriate equipment such as pallet jacks. Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code in the shipping and receiving area. Maintain a warehouse environment that is accessible, organized, and safe for both employee and customer traffic. Assemble customer orders from stock, place orders on pallets or shelves, or relocate orders to a holding area or shipping department as needed. Assist with shipping and receiving activities, including unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, and matching items to packing lists. Organize the warehouse and work area to promote orderliness, cleanliness, and efficient workflow at all times. Monitor and maintain an adequate supply of shipping materials, such as boxes, tape, banding, and labels, to support uninterrupted operations. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall shipping, receiving, and packaging functions. Essential Skills Experience in general labor or general production in a warehouse, manufacturing, or similar environment. Ability to consistently and safely operate a pallet jack to move materials and finished goods. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis throughout the shift. Ability to stand and remain on your feet for the majority of the shift. Attention to detail to accurately mark, sort, and organize materials and finished products. Basic ability to read and follow packing lists, labels, and written instructions. Commitment to maintaining a safe and orderly work environment in shipping, receiving, and warehouse areas. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous packaging, shipping, or warehouse experience in a manufacturing or sheet metal environment is a plus. Familiarity with organizing materials by size, type, style, color, or product code is beneficial. Ability to work effectively as part of a smaller team in the packaging department. Willingness to perform a variety of tasks and assist other team members as needed. Work Environment This role is based in a well-lit sheet metal shop with approximately 200 employees, where the environment can be loud or noisy at times due to production activities. The position is performed on-site in the warehouse, shipping, and receiving areas, requiring frequent standing, walking, lifting, and movement of materials. Proper safety attire is required, including steel-toe footwear and long pants; sweatpants and swishy pants are not permitted. The facility supports both first and second shift operations, and the work involves hands-on use of pallet jacks and handling of sheet metal products and related materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bettendorf, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $17.00/hr.
