Job Description

We are a high volume, successful neurosurgery practice requiring dedication and ability to prioritize multiple tasks. About the
Opportunity:
The APRN or PA-C will provide medical care under the supervision of a pain management physician while assessing and treating patients with pain management diagnosis. Care is provided in a clinical and outpatient operative setting. In addition, this role shares in supervision of department medical assistants and may give clinical direction to nursing, radiology and office staff as needed. As an APN or PA-C with this group, responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Follows protocols and procedures for practice of pain management.
  • Provides preventative care and management for chronic pain patients in outpatient setting.
  • Maintains the operational activities and patient care for the clinic.
  • Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising physician or other healthcare professional
  • First assistant in surgery, if allowed, for all requested pain management procedures/surgeries.
  • Assists with preparation of sterile area and OR setup before procedure, including planning and ordering of supplies needed for surgeons.
  • Assist with preparation of the OR prior to surgery by ensuring that all films, scans and other imaging studies are placed in the OR prior to surgery.
  • Communicates supply and equipment repairs to appropriate personnel
  • Sees new patients and performs a complete history and physical examination that is problem oriented to pain management conditions.
  • Orders appropriate imaging studies and lab tests.
  • Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Evaluate, screen and counsel patients on health maintenance
  • Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data associated with nature of the patient's presenting problem.
  • Formulate differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis.
  • Develop a treatment plan for pain management conditions within the scope of practice for specific conditions where appropriate and in conjunction with the supervising physician.
  • Provides treatment by performing various injections under scope of practice.
  • Conducts routine follow-up visits, evaluates follow-up and post procedure patients.
  • Discuss procedures with patients providing educational materials, reviewing expectations and outcomes and providing procedure training.
  • Remove staples and sutures postoperatively.
  • Assist at outreach clinics.
  • Dictate accurate and concise patient records and maintain and update charts as necessary.
  • Review imaging and laboratory reports for abnormalities and report to supervising physician.
  • Return phone calls from patients.
  • Handle prescription refills. Call in or write needed prescriptions.
  • Follow-up post procedure phone calls.
  • Triage patient phone calls to facilitate patient care delivery.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new staff including physicians, APRN's and PA's..
  • Assist office personnel with patient related issues.
  • Demonstrates effective written communication skills, via completion of insurance forms other related forms /letters, documents clearly and concisely.
  • Maintain inventory of education materials and reorder when depleted.
  • Liaison to other outside health professionals.
  • Responds to emergencies including use of CPR.
  • Takes call as assigned by the department.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality consistent with HIPAA privacy law, and other federal, state and local regulations.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in meetings, training and educational programs, in-house and outside training and conferences where appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
What's required: Required license or certification : Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Must have a license to practice in Nevada.
Experience:
Prefer 1-2 years as a practicing APN or PA-C. Prefer candidates with prior experience in Pain Management, Neurosurgery or Emergency Medicine but will consider highly motivated new graduates.
Working Conditions:
Normal medical office and exam room, hospital inpatient and outpatient settings. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to this environment. Frequent contact with patients, staff, other providers and peers. Contact may involve dealing with angry, fearful or upset patients. Operating room setting may be fast-paced and stressful. Overtime work may be common.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, walking, lifting and twisting. May require occasional assisting patients in standing, sitting or lying down. May involved lifting up to 60 lbs. Stress from dealing with multiple tasks, tense patients and surgical assisting. Requires manual dexterity to handle procedure equipment and tool. Requires hand dexterity for office machine operation, including telephone, writing utensils and computers; exam room equipment like blood pressure cuffs; and suture and staple removal.
Privacy Rule Access:
May have access to all patient protected health information when needed for appropriate care of the practices patients. May have access to patient billing and demographic PHI on an as needed basis. In order to complete coding and correct billing of services rendered.
