Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Paint Department is responsible for preparing and painting custom signs according to design specifications, ensuring high-quality results while maintaining a safe work environment. Custom signs include, but are not limited to, monuments, pylons, pan & cabinet signs, directional signs, halo letters, routed panels, raceways, and channel letters. These signs are made from materials such as acrylic, aluminum, steel, and wood. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to multitask, and communicate effectively with the Department Lead, production team, and management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Review shop tickets and drawings to confirm all required materials and information are available before starting a project. Inspect jobs for manufacturing defects (e.g., dents, dings, unfilled seams) and report issues to the Department Lead to ensure necessary corrections. Organize and prioritize projects to meet deadlines. Prepare and paint various materials following manufacturer guidelines and industry standards: Apply paint and coatings manually using rollers, brushes, or spray applicators. Mask and tape materials as needed. Use bonding and filler materials when required. Mix and apply primer suitable for specific materials. Mix and apply paint using Matthews Paint Systems, ensuring accurate color matching and proper thickness. Apply paint using correct spraying techniques to ensure even coverage without defects. Properly use industrial respirators and personal protective equipment (PPE). Label all parts with the job number and name. Utilize various air, hand, and power tools. Safely lift and maneuver signage components in and out of the paint booth. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace: Properly store paint, tools, and equipment. Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials. Communicate job progress, deadlines, and potential issues with the Department Lead. Monitor inventory levels and notify the Department Lead when materials are low.
Maintain tools and equipment:
Perform routine maintenance and report any malfunctions. Conduct quality control (QC) checks on all completed items. Accurately log time worked on each project, including job number and labor department details. Sign off on completed shop orders/job tickets and submit them promptly. Demonstrate a strong work ethic and maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues. Perform additional duties as assigned.
