About the
Role:
The Paint Prepper Technician plays a critical role in the automotive and industrial finishing process by preparing surfaces to ensure optimal paint adhesion and finish quality. This position involves meticulous surface cleaning, sanding, masking, and defect identification to create a flawless base for painting applications. The technician collaborates closely with painters and quality control teams to meet production schedules and maintain high standards of workmanship. Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential to prevent contamination and ensure a durable, aesthetically pleasing finish. Ultimately, the Paint Prepper Technician contributes significantly to the overall appearance and longevity of painted products, supporting customer satisfaction and company reputation.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in surface preparation, automotive bodywork, or a related field. Basic knowledge of hand and power sanding tools and techniques. Ability to read and understand work orders and safety instructions. Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in automotive refinishing or paint preparation. Experience working in a high-volume production environment. Familiarity with various types of paints, primers, and coatings. Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations related to paint preparation. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
Responsibilities:
Inspect and assess surfaces for imperfections, rust, or damage prior to painting. Perform sanding, grinding, and cleaning of surfaces to prepare them for paint application. Apply masking tape and protective coverings to areas not to be painted. Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently to achieve smooth, even surfaces. Collaborate with painters and production staff to ensure timely completion of prep work. Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Report any surface defects or issues that may affect paint quality to supervisors. Follow all company safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

The Paint Prepper Technician utilizes technical skills such as sanding, masking, and surface inspection daily to ensure surfaces are perfectly prepared for painting. Attention to detail is critical to identify and correct imperfections that could compromise the final finish. Effective communication skills help coordinate with painters and supervisors to maintain workflow and address any issues promptly. Knowledge of safety protocols and proper tool handling ensures a safe working environment and compliance with regulations. Additionally, problem-solving skills are applied when encountering unexpected surface defects or equipment challenges, ensuring consistent quality and efficiency. Monday through Friday, 5am to 1:30pm. Mandatory overtime
