Parish Coordinator works and is under the supervision of the Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, Mt. Angel. He works with the Pastor and assisting priests, and serves as day-to-day coordinator of the parish and its Mission, Holy Rosary, directing the various aspects of the daily operations.- Interacting frequently throughout the week with the Pastor and implementing the purpose and vision of the parish, this position is responsible for the day-to-day management of parish operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Pastor and be in communication and collaboration with the Prior of Mount Angel Abbey to schedule priests and monks for liturgical, spiritual, educational, and other ministerial needs.
- Collaborate closely with the Pastor, the assistant priests, and with other members of the Parish Staff in the overall pastoral planning and ministry of the parish in English and Spanish
- Work closely with the coordinator of Spanish Speaking Ministries to communicate with the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit and the Carmelites for priest assistance, particularly for the Spanish Mass and Confessions
- Collaborate in the overall process of parish administration including assessing needs, pastoral planning, decision-making, implementation
- Participate in the recruitment, training, formation, supervision and empowering of others
- Present at important parish gatherings, liturgies, and social functions
- Available to parishioners and for parish projects
- Cooperate with Parish Committees; serve as ex officio members of the Pastoral Council, Finance Committee and other assigned committees and groups
- The exact role and job description of Parish Coordinator may vary according to the individual's particular gifts/skills, the gifts and skills of other team/staff members, as well as the needs of the parish. Therefore, they might be involved in a few of the specific ministries listed below. 1. Ministry of Worship/Spiritual Life
- Develop and facilitate with the Pastor the coordination and assignments for the celebrations of the Sunday and daily Eucharist, Confessions, Weddings, Funerals, Anointing of the Sick, etc. at St. Mary, Holy Rosary, The Towers, and Providence Benedictine Nursing Center (PBNC) in English and Spanish.
- Work cooperatively with the Parish Music Director and the music ministers and Sacristan and assistants at each of the Masses, as well as others, in planning music for liturgy for all locations within the parish
- Coordinate and provide training for parish liturgical ministries; i.e., Lectors, Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at St. Mary and Holy Rosary, as well as Ministers to the homebound, Ministers of Holy Communion to those in nursing care at PBNC and at local hospitals. 2. Ministry of Education/Formation
- In collaboration with the Pastor, help provide for adult faith formation programs and other educational opportunities
- Assist the Coordinator of the Order of Christian Initiation process (OCIA), including recruitment and formation of team members and coordinate with the pastor the various times of formation where the Pastor and assisting priests will be involved.
- Provide for beginning and supporting small faith communities
- Oversee parish sacramental programs and formation with the Pastor
- Collaborate with the Director of Religious Education, and Coordinator of Youth Ministry to provide education for adults, youth and children
- Assist in providing staff development, education and enrichment
- Oversees marriage preparation in General, specifically for the English-speaking members of the Parish. Meets couples preparing for marriage and assists them through the process. 3. Ministry of Pastoral Care
- In collaboration with the Pastor, provide leadership and direction for couples preparing for marriage or for those seeking an annulment and coordinate the paperwork and necessary files as well as resources for marriage preparation.
- Network with local community resources; in particular, Mission Benedict, St. Joseph Shelter, Casa Adele, as well as the Senior Center
- Coordinate with the Pastor to fulfill the pastoral needs of homebound, hospitalized, resident-retired members at The Towers and nursing home patients, particularly those at the Providence Benedictine Nursing Center 4. Ministry of Administration/Management
- Collaborate with the Pastor and Business Manager for the administrative and financial management of the parish, in accordance with Archdiocesan policies
- Collaborate with Pastor to supervise personnel and annual evaluations—supervision and evaluation includes recruitment, training and management of employees and volunteers to enhance the mission of the parish.
- Collaborate with the Pastor to oversee the maintenance and repairs of the physical plant and those hired to clean and maintain the facilities.
- Along with the Pastor, oversees the work of the Director of Calvary Cemetery and the Old St. Mary Cemetery, and the Benedictine Sisters Cemetery, including grounds and buildings & property
- Oversee and coordinate use of the church, parish center and office building
- Oversee Holy Rosary mission church, grounds, and cemetery. Practical application is done by HR coordinating team
- Assure that all parish records are up to date, including sacramental records
- Coordinate the parish census and registration
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget
- Oversees the Security Aspects of the Parish. Must be versed in (or open to learn) Unifi Access and Security
- Oversees the Livestream operations for the Parish Masses and has a good command of Computers to work with our computer management company.
- Oversees the upkeep of the Parish's Website, ensuring department heads and Ministry coordinators upkeep and keep fresh their particular pages.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Can work effectively with the Pastor and assisting priests
- Has a basic grasp of Catholic teaching pastoral care
- Has basic knowledge of: Canon Law, Church history, the stages of human and faith development, and the principles of organization, management, and team building
- Has a sense of the history of the parish and a keen grasp on its current demographics, constituencies, challenges and complexities
- Ideally is fully bi-lingual in English and Spanish
- Can gather, motivate, train, unify and evaluate a team of volunteers and employed parish staff
- Is skilled at decision-making, delegation of tasks, negotiation and conflict resolution
- Is aware of community resources and can refer those in need to appropriate professional resources
- Can communicate and have an awareness of public relations, and public communications skills
- Can preside/lead parish community gatherings, meetings and training.
- Can assist at and MC major
Liturgical Events Minimum Qualifications:
- Is a practicing Catholic in good standing
- Ideally holds a master's degree in pastoral ministry, theology, religious studies, or some related academic or life experience
- Has a minimum of 3 years in pastoral ministry, preferably in a variety of parishes and ministries
- Ideally fully bi-lingual in English and Spanish (or willingness to learn Spanish)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with flexibility
- Superb organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Excellent computer skills
- Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle.
- Must be in full compliance with the Archdiocese Safe Environment / Child Protection Policy and successfully complete a background check.
- While most work is performed during the day, evening, weekend and after-hours work will often be required to meet parishioner needs and schedules.
