Job Description
About This Role St. John's Episcopal Church is a historic, multi-generational congregation in Cold Spring Harbor, NY, supporting a vibrant array of ministries and community programs-alongside the Memorial Cemetery. We are seeking a detail-oriented Financial Administrator to serve as the financial backbone of our organization, ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and careful stewardship of our funds. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who is passionate about mission-driven work and ready to make a meaningful impact in a close-knit community setting. What You'll Do Manage end-to-end accounts payable and receivable-including deposits, income/expense entry, bill payments, and year-end account balancing Administer payroll and coordinate HR benefits for staff in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island Serve as the primary financial liaison for parishioners: track annual pledges, process donations across multiple payment platforms, and coordinate stock gifts and investment account transactions Prepare monthly financial reports for Vestry meetings and support ad hoc requests from staff and ministry leads Lead the annual budget planning process and coordinate materials for the external audit Draft and manage donor acknowledgment and thank-you letters; maintain records of taxable gifts Review and process staff travel and expense reports Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and internal controls What We're Looking For Required Proven experience in financial administration, accounting, or bookkeeping Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and deadlines Excellent written and verbal communication skills High degree of discretion and confidentiality—essential in a faith-based environment Ability to work independently, take initiative, and proactively improve processes Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail) & Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word etc.) Preferred Prior experience in a church, religious organization, or nonprofit setting Familiarity with Realm church engagement software Comfort learning new financial tools and participating in professional development
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per yearBenefits:
