At Eagle Nest Lake State Park, this position serves to enhance the recreational experience of park visitors by providing safe, clean, and well maintained grounds and facilities. At Eagle Nest Lake State Park the Park Technician must perform maintenance to all park facilities, structures, vehicles, and equipment. This position is responsible for maintenance of the park's vehicle fleet. Perform administrative duties necessary for this position. The incumbent will need to operate and maintain equipment to maintain ground and roads, including CDL required equipment. The operation of a pumper truck is required and certification is required. In order to maintain the water systems, the position is required to have the Advanced Small Water Utility Operator Certification. How does it get done? The Park Technician at Eagle Nest Lake State Park is responsible for maintaining facilities, grounds and equipment utilizing their training and knowledge. Key responsibilities include operation and maintenance of the park water treatment and distribution system which requires a small water system advanced operator certification. This position utilizes various hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment to maintain park facilities and grounds such as snow removal, digging trenches, campsite maintenance, etc. This position requires the use of Dump Trucks (Class A CDL), and Heavy Equipment Operation such as Backhoes, Front End Loaders, Skid steers, Tractors, Mowers, Pumper Trucks, etc. Who are the customers? Internal and external customers, visitors throughout the state of New Mexico and surrounding states who are campers, hikers, and boaters that come to visit the park for a variety of reasons. Local community businesses in surrounding areas of the park. Minimum Qualification High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in parks, monuments, museums, interpretive/educational ranger, field archaeologist, and/or ruins preservationist at a historic site. Employment Requirements This position is designated as safety sensitive within the meaning of Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid NM Class "A" Commercial Driver's License at time of hire or the ability to acquire within one (1) year of hire. All applicants for this position must be licensed in accordance with 66-5-59 NMSA 1978, as applicable or eligible for licensure in accordance with provisions 66-5-60 NMSA 1987. Applicants must become a licensed Commercial driver within one (1) year of hire. You must include your license or certificate number in the ¿license¿ section of the application form. All applicants for this position must be certified in accordance with 61-33-1 NMSA 1978 (Utility Operators Certification). Applicants must obtain a New Mexico Advanced Small Water Certification within one (1) year from hire. Working Conditions Working conditions are primarily in an outdoor setting. The position is labor intensive to include: digging, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting, as well as standing for long periods of time. The position requires the use of various hand and power tools, as well as operating vehicles and heavy equipment. This position requires significant physical activity and the ability to lift heavy objects (cement bags, anchors, tires, etc.) is required. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, environmental allergens and dust are a daily requirement. One may be required to work in adverse weather conditions, extreme cold and heat for extended periods of time. Shift work may be required on holidays or during park events. Emergency maintenance situations may also arise requiring extended hours of work. Sitting at a desk or computer workstation is also required.
