Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager 2, SG-21 at Tallman State Park, the selected candidate's duties will include, but not be limited to:
  • Perform daily ground and building maintenance such as, but not limited to mowing lawns, cleaning restrooms, remove snow and ice, and pick up litter and other obstructions from buildings and grounds.
  • Oversee and train lower-level employees by assigning tasks, reviewing their performance, and supervising their work to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Control and monitor access to park facilities while investigating and minimizing potential problems in collaboration with staff and patrons.
  • Verify and manage fee collection processes to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to satellite parks, such as Blauvelt State Park, to assess and monitor conditions.
  • Occasionally perform clerical tasks.
  • Administer first aid in emergencies.
  • Supervise and conduct routine maintenance on a variety of equipment, including small engines (e.g., mowers and saws), trucks, and tractors.
  • Assist higher-level personnel in various semi-skilled building repair tasks including but not limited to carpentry (minor wood replacement and building repairs using hand and power tools and shop machinery), masonry (pouring sidewalks and pads), electrical (changing switches and light fixtures, light bulbs, and breakers), and plumbing tasks (faucet changing and bathroom winterizing).
  • Carry out building maintenance activities, including interior and exterior painting.
  • Track inventory and monitor the condition of maintenance equipment and tools to ensure operational readiness.
  • Removal of hazardous trees or branches.
  • Adhere to the agency's Code of Conduct policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in daily tasks. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications One year of experience
  • in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;OR
  • One year of experience
  • in any of the following fields:
  • Law enforcement or security
  • Firefighting
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Environmental education or stewardship
  • Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
  • Historic preservation or interpretation
  • Landscaping or grounds maintenanceOR
  • One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;OR
  • Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university
  • ;OR•Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;OR•Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
  • If verifiable, we will accept and pro-rate part-time and volunteer experience.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
  • Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
  • Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP.
  • Must obtain AED, CPR, and First Aid Certification during the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The CSEA contracts allow for salary protection for seasonal / hourly employees who are appointed to permanent graded positions with lower hiring rates under certain circumstances. We encourage OPRHP seasonal / hourly applicants to check in with your Regional Business Office Administrator to inquire about the potential impact on your salary. As a permanent graded employee, you will be eligible for regular salary / performance advances (i.e. salary increases).
