Parks & Recreation Maintenance Technician II FLSA:

Hiring Range:

$25.37-$29.81/hour •Full-time, year-round position being offered with housing available at Village Court Apartments.

NATURE OF WORK

Under direct supervision, provides front line labor for the Parks and Recreation department. Works cooperatively with the Recreation Supervisor and Director toward the completion of assigned projects. Performs recreation services and maintenance of trails and facilities. This position requires proficiency in both Nordic ski grooming and ice rink maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Construction and Maintenance of Summer and Winter Activities Performs all required labor involved in construction of trails. Performs required labor involved with year-round maintenance of summer and winter trails. Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on summer and/or winter trails, disc course, ice rink, playgrounds, climbing rock, platform tennis, and other rec venues. Operates construction, power, and grooming equipment and other various outdoor mobile equipment. Groom, locate, mark and pack out Nordic & winter trails. Prepares and maintains ice skating rink in a safe manner for public use. Collects trash, recycling, and dog refuse from collection bins, trails and common areas. Stocks trail maps. Uses hand tools to shovel snow, chip ice, pack out tracks, rake berms, pickaxe rocks, shovel dirt, dig holes, and perform all other outdoor labor related activities associated with winter and/or summer recreational venues. Performs research and uses basic computer skills for department including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet searching. Identification of wetland indicator species. Plot and GPS existing and new trail construction. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Picks up and removes trash as assigned; Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activity. May perform general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment. [JH1] Actively works to progress the Town's goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling. Acts as a liaison, when necessary between Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants, giving direction and assistance as needed Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct tailgate trainings. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team. Due to the nature of the position, there must be a strict commitment to personal safety and the safety of co-workers. 2. Special Projects Assists other departments with special projects as needed Hazard tree removal Promote use of recreational facilities Identify and control noxious weeds on town property in accordance with industry best practices

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Parks & Rec Technician II is distinguished from Parks & Rec Tech I in that Technician II performs a full range of specialized parks and recreation tasks, performs a greater difficulty and diversity of the tasks including equipment use; may provide assistance with coordinating departmental work activities and/or training assigned personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma/GED with College degree preferred in related field. This position requires proficiency in both Nordic ski grooming and ice rink maintenance. Two years of experience in snow grooming and trail maintenance or equivalent amount of education and experience may substitute. Previous experience operating a Pisten Bully PB100 Nordic grooming snowcat or equivalent. Previous experience operating a snowmobile with a pull behind grooming implement. Previous experience operating a Zamboni ice resurfacer or equivalent. Licenses/Certification(s): Possession of a valid Colorado State Driver's License is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of recreation maintenance; regulations governing the maintenance of recreation facilities and trails; trail construction and maintenance principles; equipment and tools relative to recreation maintenance and construction; supervisory principles, practices, and methods.

Skill in:

Ability to speak, read, hear, write and comprehend the English language at a high school graduate level. Ability to read and understand documents, plans, and maps pertaining to Mountain Village facilities. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Employee must be able to operate hand tools, power tools, and various pieces of equipment. Use of power tools, hand tools, chainsaws, snow blowers, snowmobiles, snow cats, loaders, backhoes, excavators, bull dozers, dump truck, forklift, and four wheelers.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions, avalanches , unstable ice, high winds, falling trees, animal feces., machinery with moving parts, noise from equipment operation, vehicle traffic, hazardous materials/chemicals, and infectious diseases.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate heavy and light equipment, including hand and power tools, operate various outdoor equipment, including snowmobiles, and grooming machinery appropriately and safely, perform manual labor, stand, walk, snowshoe and ski for extended periods of time. The employee will be required to walk, climb and move objects on ice. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 100 pounds. The employee must be willing and able to hike and snowshoe uphill for a minimum distance of two miles over one thousand vertical feet in all summer and winter weather conditions.
