Job Description

The Maple Bluff Fire Rescue Department is currently accepting applications for part time relief officers. Part time relief officers work as fill in supervisors for MBFD full time staff. Relief officers work a maximum of 1100 hours per year on a fill-in, as needed, basis. Resumes will be accepted continuously and interviews scheduled as needed. The position involves, but is not limited to, supervision of firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and special rescue incidents. Relief Officers also help ensure compliance with department policies, procedures, and special instructions through the chain of command.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
When necessary, act as Incident Commander of all firefighting, hazardous materials, emergency medical, and rescue operations of the department until relieved by other command staff. Cooperate with other municipal departments and any outside agencies in the resolution of problems. Encourage a positive attitude among the membership of the fire department at all times. Assist with department activities as needed and work cooperatively with the officers and members of the department to accomplish our mission.
CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Wisconsin Firefighter II Certification required State of Wisconsin Advanced EMT License required Three (3) years experience as an active firefighter with increasing levels of responsibility required Course work towards a fire science degree desirable Fire Officer I Wisconsin Entry Level Driver/Operator Pumper (or higher) Fire officer/incident command experience is highly desirable

required.
ICS 300 & 400
must be completed within one year
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of firefighting and rescue techniques, emergency medical services operations, and the scientific principles involved in fire suppression and hazardous materials incidents. Extensive knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of various types of firefighting apparatus and equipment. Thorough knowledge of the use of firefighting and emergency medical tools, equipment and apparatus, and an ability to demonstrate their use to others. Ability to plan, assign, direct, and supervise personnel and equipment under emergency conditions. Demonstrate initiative and exhibit a positive attitude. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with personnel of the fire department, emergency medical service, other village departments, community officials, and the general public. Possess good judgment and a calm, experienced, approach to emergency situations. Ability to analyze problems, and reach acceptable and workable solutions. Demonstrate capability to handle incident command responsibilities. The ability to successfully motivate other firefighters.
