Job Description

Part Time Plan Review Engineer Tomball, TX 77375 Apply Overview Position Type Part Time Apply Description The City of Tomball is accepting applications for Plan Review Engineer. The Plan Review Engineer will perform a variety of advanced technical and administrative engineering work related to development review and capital projects throughout the City of Tomball. The Plan Review Engineer will process, review, and approve plans associated with residential, commercial, industrial and public assembly development, subdivision, transportation and other projects for conformance with city and state standards and current civil engineering practices; and perform other duties as assigned. This position is authorized to work remotely. (Occasional on-site attendance ability is preferred) Job Title Plan Review Engineer Reports To City Engineer Positions Supervised N/A Plan Review Engineer functions include but are not limited to the following.
Development Project Review:
Reviews construction plans, site plans and other development related applications and documents for compliance with city design standards and/or state and Federal codes, and other civil engineering standards. Reviews subdivision preliminary plats, final plats and re-plats; subdivision construction plans; and subdivision bonding calculations. Reviews hydrologic and hydraulic models and analysis, drainage reports, FEMA letter of map change documents and reports, geotechnical reports, pavement designs and other development related reports/documents. Reviews plans/permit submittals for residential, interior finish, commercial, swimming pools, room additions and single trade permits by residents and architects to assure all codes are meeting minimum requirements. Meets with staff, developers, engineers, and contractors to respond to questions concerning design standards for and city regulations for development. Provides technical assistance and information concerning code interpretation and administration of the City's development standards. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the City Engineer to support departmental operations and City objectives.

Work requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Equipment and Tools commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. Microsoft Office, GIS, Bluebeam, AutoCAD Work Environment or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job. The work is typically performed indoors in an office setting and occasionally outdoors. May rarely be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma. Success Framework. The following list of knowledge, skills, and abilities have been identified by our team as building blocks towards efficiency and effectiveness in this role. Knowledge of civil engineering and surveying principles and practices including design, construction, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analysis principles and application, drainage infrastructure design and operation Knowledge of and interpretation of applicable codes, City ordinances, laws and regulations governing building construction industry Knowledge of and understanding of residential and commercial development Skill in reading and interpreting site plans, plats, building plans, specifications, calculations and codes to determine compliance with appropriate building codes and ordinances Ability to clearly and effectively communicate, verbally and in writing with co-workers, other City departments and others in the performance of assigned duties Ability to effectively manage a wide variety of projects, tasks and responsibilities; ensuring excellent quality of work as well as tending to all tasks in a timely manner Proficiency in the use of Microsoft programs, ARGIS, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and other engineering related software (recommended).

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Education Bachelor's Degree (Related Field) Experience Minimum of 4 years previous relevant work experience is required. Licensing Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required, Professional Engineer (PE) License, or ability to obtain PE license within 1 year is preferred
