• Time Laborer-Driver General Definitions (This is an outdoor, physical labor job that includes all weather conditions) A laborer is responsible for the direct maintenance, repair, and, if necessary, construction, of streets, the maintenance of municipal buildings, grounds, or equipment, as directed by the Public Works Supervisor.

Fundamental Requirements for Part-Time Public Works Department Laborer

• Simple maintenance (cleaning, touch up, etc.) to all public works vehicles and equipment.
• Maintenance of Borough roadways, including but not limited to patching, repairing, plowing, salting, cindering, leaf removal, cleaning gutters and catch basins, and paving.
• Curbside pick-up of yard waste.
• Performance of recycling duties and curbside pickup.
• Maintenance of all public facilities owned by the Borough including, but not limited to, the Borough building, open space areas, park and recreation areas, and all equipment located thereon or therein.
• Physical ability to lift equipment and supplies.
• Physically and mentally able to withstand various weather conditions for extended periods of time.
• Physical ability to operate lawn mowers, trimmers, snow blowers, and other hand tools.
• Physical capability to read and understand product or equipment manuals.
• Must be available for overtime work as necessary to complete snowplowing, road maintenance, or other assignments.
• Ability to withstand long periods of standing.
• To maintain regular work hours of 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Wednesday. The Laborer will have a 30-minute lunch period each day from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM.
• To maintain the ability to respond to borough emergencies during off duty hours.
• The Public Works Department employees will perform all other work as reasonably assigned.

Minimal Acceptable Training And/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency preferred. Previous maintenance experience, preferably in public works. Ability to carry out routine instructions. Good to excellent medical condition. West Pittston residence preferred. A Pre-Employment Physical Examination, Drug Testing, and Background Check are required upon an offer of employment.
