Job Description

General Definition and Conditions of Work:
Oversees the locating, storage, organizing, and distribution of parts and tools to ensure operational efficiency while maintaining up to date and accurate inventory. Duties include, but not limited to managing stock levels, conducting audits, release and return of tools, ensuring equipment is received and distributed in proper working conditions, working with suppliers and vendors, purchasing, and use of software to track inventory and enter work orders. Manages Trash Can services, stock and replacements.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Maintains accurate, perpetual inventory records and conducts regular audits, verifying service and condition of equipment. Maintains current Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals and material supplies purchased, stored or used within the Garage, Street, and Solid Waste division. Oversees that assigned stock rooms and garage areas are organized and that they follow effective inventory control practices. Keeps assigned work areas clean and free of clutter. Maintains efficient storage and distribution of inventoried items. Orders parts, manages vendor relationships, and ensures adequate stock levels to prevent downtime. Communicates with vendors both orally and in writing as needed regarding the determination of product availability, solicitation of bids/ price quotes, status or orders and scheduling of deliveries. Negotiates prices and resolution of product discrepancies, (e.g., warranty claim, missing order or product quality dispute) with vendors where applicable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of Public Works duties and functions, including snow removal and other emergency operations. Knowledge of storekeeping, warehousing, and inventory procedures. Knowledge of auto parts, specialized machinery parts, tools, and equipment used within the public works department, including operation and general repairs. Knowledge and understanding of Safety Data Sheet and VOSHA record keeping.
Education, Experience and Licenses:
Completion of a standard high school course, or equivalent GED program. Minimum of two (2) years in municipal public works, garage/shop, or related field. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in warehouse and/or parts operations and purchasing supplies and materials commonly stocked at a municipal operation. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of a valid Driver's License. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License A.
