  • Responsible for accurate and timely registration and scheduling of patients across ER, Admitting, and Scheduling Office.
Provides coverage for switchboard and scheduling staff, verifies insurance and authorizations, registers patient accounts, and ensures smooth patient flow.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Initiates patient registration by obtaining accurate demographics and insurance information; completes non-patient registrations.
  • Obtains required patient/representative signatures for medical records.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits; contacts payers within 24 hours for inpatient/observation/SDC accounts.
  • Collaborates with patient care staff for bed assignments and timely chart/bed board management.
  • Generates pre-op and surgical account numbers; facilitates admitting portion of pre-op testing for SDC.
  • Prioritizes and reprioritizes work based on changing customer needs.
  • Performs scheduling duties and covers scheduling operations when assigned.
  • Files outpatient orders, monitors standing orders and expirations, notifies MDs as needed.
  • Trains and assists new employees on patient access processes as directed.
  • Provides ED Registration coverage for breaks/days off and supports during high ED volume/trauma.
  • Maintains knowledge of registration downtime procedures.
  • Contributes to system/process improvements for departmental efficiency.
  • Demonstrates professional telephone etiquette and positive patient interactions.
  • Processes electronic/web-based payer eligibility, registers MABRs within one hour, and manages Endo authorizations.
  • Completes status changes, inputs/scans insurance authorizations, compiles daily/weekly/monthly data and duty board statistics.
  • Performs switchboard/reception duties when assigned.

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Exerts up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, or negligible force constantly to move objects.

QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • High school graduate or equivalent required; formal training beyond high school preferred.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Medical terminology, spelling competence and computer experience essential; referral/third-party billing and Meditech knowledge preferable.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Excellent communication and multitasking skills with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, physicians and hospital personnel in a high-volume setting.
  • High accuracy for patient care and financial documentation.
