Job Description
a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } A Patient Services Representative is responsible for welcoming patients upon arrival, promoting the use of consumer‑friendly technologies, educating patients on copayments and financial obligations, and collecting payments when applicable. This role schedules follow‑up appointments within the continuum of care, connects patients to financial advocacy resources when appropriate, updates patient demographics and insurance information, and promotes a culture of service excellence. Patient Services Representatives display strong customer service skills to ensure that patients and family members have the desired UPMC Experience within UPMC physician practices, hospitals, and outpatient departments.
Responsibilities:
Provide a warm greeting for all patients. Guide patients through self‑arrival technology or perform standard desk check‑ins based on patient preference. Collect copayments and other applicable payments at the point of service. Confirm and/or update patient registration information at checkout. Schedule follow‑up appointments within the practice at checkout. Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services. Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear, understandable instructions. Provide follow‑up to unresolved patient questions or needs to ensure continuity of care. Understand and apply service recovery principles to support the UPMC Experience. Register patients in the biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and explain its benefits. Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist with portal registration. Educate patients on financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed. Verify insurance benefits through online verification systems or carrier calls. Obtain required signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Appropriately distribute or triage phone calls to other areas and/or clinical providers. Assist with office administrative duties, including scanning medical records and faxing.
