Job Description

The Deadwood Police Department is currently seeking an exceptionally positive, team-oriented individual to provide innovative, sustained, high-quality Police services to the City of Deadwood. Essential duties include but are not limited to: Duties related to enforcement of Federal, State and local laws; Protection of life and property, and public assistance; Assist with implementing proactive plans within the department and in partnership with the community, to better serve the City of Deadwood. Situated in a wonderful community of approximately 1300 residents, our department welcomes millions of visitors per year, contributing to a vibrant and diverse economy. The Deadwood Police Department prides itself on being a vital part of the beautiful community nestled in the heart of the Black Hills. Currently, we have a dedicated team of 16 full-time sworn police officers, two community service officers, and one police support technician. Our department offers not only a supportive work environment but also various growth opportunities and challenges for those seeking special training and advancement. The benefits package includes competitive compensation, health insurance, dental and vision plans, South Dakota Retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, personal days, yearly uniform allowance, cell phone reimbursement, and access to the Deadwood Recreation Center. Officers work a 40-hour work week (4, 10-hour shifts), and overtime is compensated for more than 40 hours worked in a week. On the job training is provided and paid. Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, be 21 years of age or older, and have or be able to obtain a valid South Dakota driver's license. Applicants hired that are not South Dakota Law Enforcement Certified, will be required to be certified within one year of hire.
