Job Description

Payroll Specialist - Canton, MS Located in Canton, MS and reporting to the HR Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and overseeing payroll operations for 300+ employees across the Tri‑County area. This role ensures timely, accurate payroll processing and reporting in full compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate is an experienced payroll professional who understands the complexities of high‑volume payroll and is willing to support additional administrative tasks as needed. Compensation will be determined based on experience. Responsibilities & Duties Manage all aspects of preparing, reconciling, processing, and documenting weekly payroll for exempt and non‑exempt employees, including off‑cycle adjustments and terminations. Update employee records, including tax information, deductions, and direct deposit details. Ensure company compliance with all federal and state payroll regulations and guidelines. Assist with administration of the 401(k) plan, including eligibility, deferrals, employer match, profit sharing, and loan processing. Process work orders and facilitate entry into Maintenance Connect. Maintain consistent adherence to company and client policies and procedures. Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate benefit deductions and payroll liabilities. Process and monitor garnishments and other payroll‑impacting orders. Respond promptly to payroll‑related inquiries from employees and managers. Import and export timecards and other payroll‑related data files. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills Minimum 3 years of payroll processing experience . Strong analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make timely, accurate decisions. Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as basic accounting principles related to payroll accounts. Experience managing high‑volume payroll and 401(k) administration for 300+ employees . Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, etc.). Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage workflow. General familiarity with employee relations. Experience with payroll systems required; Viewpoint and NOVAtime preferred.

Exceptional attention to detail, ability to multitask and manage multiple payroll cycles simultaneously, comfort working with large data sets, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, highly confidential environment.
