Job Description

Job Summary:
Inspire and empower students to achieve success and become engaged, lifelong learners and responsible citizens.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (or combination of education and paid non-teaching work experience for teachers of vocational education) in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field. Valid Maine teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subjects assigned. Knowledge of subjects assigned. Knowledge of curriculum design and instructional strategies. Strong classroom management skills. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Maine Background & Fingerprinting Previous experience teaching middle or high school students is preferred.

Core Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Design and implement lesson plans aligned with district curriculum; maintain documentation as needed. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and student needs. Deliver instruction that aligns with Maine DOE standards, district policies, and administrative guidelines. Use effective teaching strategies, tools, and technology to engage all learners. Conduct and utilize student assessments to guide instruction. Collaboration & Student Support Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings and collaborate with special education staff to adapt instruction based on Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Work closely with colleagues to set and achieve instructional goals. Support and supervise educational technicians and volunteers effectively. Student Development Guide students in developing effective study skills and learning strategies. Monitor and report student progress regularly. Promote student involvement in extracurricular and co-curricular activities when possible. Classroom & Behavior Management Establish a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment. Enforce school rules and behavioral expectations consistently. Take proactive steps to ensure the safety of students, equipment, and learning spaces. Professional Responsibilities Select and maintain appropriate instructional resources. Maintain open communication with students, families, and colleagues. Participate in staff development to stay current with best practices. Comply with all district, state, and school policies and procedures. Complete required reports, records, and documentation accurately and on time. Attend faculty meetings and actively contribute to committees. Mentor student teachers when appropriate.

Maintains confidentiality related to all aspects of student performance, written records, and oral communications. Demonstrates respect for the rights of students, other staff, and parents. Follow all district health and safety guidelines. Communicate absences promptly and ensure professional coverage. Uphold professional and ethical standards in all interactions.
