Job Description

The Pediatric Urgent Care Physician will be responsible for providing medical attention to patients (up through adolescence) on a walk-in and self-schedule basis. This will include assessing, diagnosing, treating and explaining procedures and discussing test results or prescribed treatments with patients/family members. The Pediatric Urgent Care Physician will work with a team to provide the high quality care to each patient/family specific to their condition. EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Graduate from accredited school of medicine required
  • MD or DO Degree
  • 2 or more years of experience in Pediatric Urgent Care or Emergency Medicine preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Successful completion of an approved residency training program LICENSE and/or
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
  • Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafter
  • DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafter
  • Board certified/board eligible in Pediatrics.
Board certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine considered if accompanied by significant clinical experience in Pediatric Urgent Care
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Posses strong clinical and academic background
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Maintain CME units based on the requirements of the specifying board, as well as maintain all licensure requirements
SKILLS:
  • Communication skills needed to present goals clearly
  • Skilled and proficient in electronic medical record documentation for management of patients
  • Apply current knowledge to the interpretation and organization of data gathered through the assessment process

  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, and families
  • Have a passion for working with complicated patients
  • Clinical ability to repair lacerations, manage minor fractures and dislocations, drain abscesses, and read x-rays
  • Able to multi-task effectively and work independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • High-energy individual with a positive attitude
  • Provide diagnostic healthcare services to patients of all ages through adolescence, including examination of patients for broad spectrum of illness, injury.
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, order diagnostic testing, interpret test results, make diagnoses, create treatment plans and order appropriate medications.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures including laceration repair, incision and drainage, and foreign body removal; anxiolysis/minimal sedation
  • Perform splinting and casting for minor orthopedic injuries; eye irrigation/decontamination
  • Document patient encounters thoroughly and accurately.
  • Conduct follow up calls to patients; handle incoming patient, pharmacy or physician calls
  • Provide health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies.
  • Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and supervision of pediatrics residents, advanced practice nursing students when present.
