POSITION SUMMARY
The Peer Support Specialist or Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for helping recoverees and their families navigate and access community services and other social resources while navigating the recovery process. The Peer Support Specialist supports providers as well as other staff and community members through an integrated approach to care management and community outreach. The Peer Support Specialist will work on activities that will promote, maintain and improve health outcomes; provide social support; informal counseling and be an advocate for recoverees and their families. COMPETENCIES andQUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Must have at minimum a year of sobriety of all substances (This includes THC/Marijuana & Alcohol)
- Successful completion of a recovery specialist certification helpful
- Understanding of the community served

- Good communication skills, such as listening well, and using language appropriately
- Ability and willingness to provide emotional support, encouragement and motivation to recoverees
- Works well with others and communicates effectively
- Candidate must be fluent in English. Bi-lingual preferred.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural setting
- Basic computer skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides assistance accessing various community resources (education, housing, transportation, recovery supports, etc.)
- Offers guidance on the recovery process and recovery education
- Helps with developing a Personal Recovery Plan
- Provides assistance in building life skills (budgeting, job searching, interviewing skills, etc.)
- Connects recoverees with the recovery community
- Provides support before, during, and after treatment
- Advocacy
- Offers outreach for recoverees in early recovery
- Provides resources related to recovery support groups
- Responsible for establishing trusting relationships with recoverees and their families while providing encouragement for medical and social support
- Providing ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing and goal setting in regards to health outcomes
- Follow-up with recoverees via phone calls, home visits and to other locations in the community
- Help recoverees set personal goals and attend necessary appointments
- Provide referrals for services to community agencies as appropriate
- Work cooperatively with medical providers and other clinical personnel to help ensure that recoverees have comprehensive and coordinated care Follow-up with recoverees should be continuous
