Job Description

Purpose Statement Provides direct instruction specifically to percussion instrumentalists in grades 6-12 during regular class one day per week. Facilitates 6th, 7th, and 8th grade percussion introductions and auditions with assistance from directors. Rehearses drumline and percussion ensemble during "0-Hour" on Wednesday mornings. Takes responsibility for all drumline teaching during mini-camp. May assist in music selection. Essential Functions
  • Provide direct, specific, intensive instruction on percussion techniques to students in the combined band classroom setting.
  • Rehearse percussion sections in a separate rehearsal area as needed
  • Consult with the instructor regarding technical music decisions, such as discrepancies in scores and errors in printed music; transpose, transcribe, and edit music as needed.
  • Prepare music materials for classroom use by copying and taping individual parts for percussionspecific exercises as the percussion instructor wishes to prescribe for use.
  • Facilitate 6th, 7th, and 8th grade percussion introductions as a pull-out session during regular class meetings, assign and provide supplementary materials for these situations
  • Facilitate, in cooperation with the directors, 6th- 8th grade percussion auditions and cuts.
  • Participate in communicating musical theory and concepts to students.
  • Consult with instructor regarding upcoming activities; research and plan appropriate music for classes and performances.
  • Provide basic maintenance to school percussion instruments, teach students proper instrument maintenance and care, alert directors to issues, and make suggestions regarding replacement equipment.
  • Maintain a library of categorized files of sheet music and audio recordings.
  • Operate a variety of audio equipment; evaluate sound balance on electronic equipment for classes, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Set up or oversee the setting up of instruments, monitors, and other essential equipment.
  • Perform a variety of general clerical duties relating to classroom and student activities, including assisting the instructor with paperwork and maintaining records; operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and assigned software.
  • Correct student work as assigned.
Other Functions Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE
of music theory, language, and history. Musical styles and percussion literature from various historical periods. Standard musical performance procedures and practices. Techniques of music editing. Responsibility Responsibilities include:

Reports To Instrumental Music Teacher(s) and Building Principal(s) Supervises No supervisory responsibilities Education Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education, or Obtain an associate's, or higher, degree, or High School diploma or equivalent, and pass a State-approved assessment Qualifications Must be able to read music. Must be able to read, write, and comprehend written and oral instructions Experience Proof of completion of college-level coursework or advanced private training in percussion and music theory. Terms School year work schedule, some evening, weekend, and/or variable hours.
