Job Description

Standardized Patient California Northstate University, College of Medicine Job Classification:
Part-time, Non-exempt- hourly
Salary:
$20.00 per hour
Hours:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, intermittently, from 7:30am - 2:00pm
Location:
Elk Grove, CA The Standardized Patient reports directly to the Medical Skills and Standardized Patient program coordinator. The major responsibility of this position is to portray all the characteristics of a real patient, simulating the signs/symptoms and behaviors. Standardized patients will often be physically examined by students and faculty as part of the medical students learning experience. These physical examinations exclude breasts, genitals, rectal, and pelvic exams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Memorize case scripts detailing specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms for presentation during medical skills sessions
  • Improvise or ad lib in the event that a student asks about something not mentioned in the script
  • Be highly dependable and punctual
  • Provide constructive feedback to medical students about professionalism
  • Work in a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, staff, and peers
  • Be comfortable with having repeated physical examinations performed on self (ie. Abdominal exam, thyroid exam, head/eyes/ears/neck/throat exam, etc.)
  • Be willing to wear a hospital gown with only torso undergarments (ie. Sports bra for women) underneath, while on camera and/or observed live via observation window or video monitor
  • Be willing to be audio and videotaped during sessions
  • Accept ongoing feedback from preceptors, course directors, and/or program coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • 18 - 40 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent This position may require specific physical attributes and/or characteristics designed to meet the role of the character being portrayed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year acting experience (highly preferred, but not required)
  • Strong reading and writing skills
