Position Title :
Standardized Patient & Simulation Specialist Description:
The Standardized Patient & Simulation Specialist position provides support for various functions within the Standardized Patient Program and Simulation Lab. This position is nonexempt. This position reports to the Director of the Standardized Patient Program. This position starts at $18.49 per hour, depending on experience.
Examples of Duties:
Assist in the recruitment, orientation, training, and evaluation of standardized patients. Assist in monitoring standardized patient performances and giving feedback for improvement. This includes all aspects of case portrayal such as delivering details, affect, and physical simulation. This may involve observing videos of standardized patients for quality assurance purposes to ensure standardization and implement retraining. Assist in overseeing attendance and the preparation and monitoring of inventory needed for clinical education activities involving standardized patients. Administration and support of standardized payment, including data entry and timely submission of documents. Assist in clinical room preparation- ordering supplies, restocking rooms, and room set up. Assist in the coordination and communication of standardized patient schedules and reminders. Report standardized patient or student issues to the Director of the Standardized Patient Program and/or appropriate Course Director and/or the Chair of Clinical Medicine. Assist in the preparation of standardized patients. Communicate effectively and handle challenging or confidential matters with the utmost professionalism. Ability to work professionally with a varied number of faculty and standardized patient trainees. Direct students to the right equipment and materials to supplement their education. Develop and maintain competence in operation and upkeep including high-fidelity manikin controls and maintenance. Attend manikin training sessions when possible. Assist with simulation sessions to ensure a quality experience for all participants. Be secondary to ordering supplies for SIM and timesheet entering for outside session assistants. Assists with pickup and storage of donated supplies from local clinics/hospitals. Look for opportunities to assist with current and upcoming events/sessions, proactively. Support student practice opportunities. Assist in student training for procedures and skills within the scope of training. Perform other duties as assigned. Other skills important to this position: Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to prioritize, coordinate, multi-task, and demonstrate initiative. Detail oriented with excellent office skills including typing and proofreading. Excellent organizational, communication (written/oral), and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage changing priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, and follow through on assignments with little direction. Must possess a positive attitude and be a team player who enjoys learning and contributing to team goals. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and patient management software. Acts in a professional manner at all times. Highly organized with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Self-starter, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, takes initiative to stay busy Regular, on-time attendance.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required and completion of medical assisting school; College degree or 6 months previous related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
