Job Description:
Jefferson Community College, Watertown, NY, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) System, is conducting a search for a part-time Technical Specialist - Standardized Patient in our Nursing Department. This position supports the Nursing Department's Simulation Center and simulation lab curriculum. The role of this part-time Technical Specialist requires that the individual complete training to portray the characteristics of a real patient during an encounter with a learner. The standardized patient performs in a wide variety of roles; however, this position will support simulation in the nursing courses. Students interact with the standardized patient in a safe environment where students can practice their communication and assessment skills in an effort to build students' confidence and knowledge before they interact with patients in the clinical setting. The ideal candidate for this position will possess strong communication, reading and comprehension skills, attention to detail and a strong attendance record.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend and actively participate in standardized patient (SP) training program on campus and online, as assigned. Prepare for each assigned SP role as scheduled. Preparation for roles includes memorizing patient persona and relevant background information such as past medical history, allergies, and symptoms. Portray patient's character and symptoms in a manner that is accurate, reliable, and as believable as possible. Participate in physical examinations, such as measuring peripheral pulses, listening to breath and heart sounds, and taking a blood pressure reading. Participate in SP pre-brief and de-brief, as appropriate for simulation sessions. Demonstrate flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments. Work in a professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, and peers. Accept ongoing feedback from facilitators and incorporate feedback into case simulation. Be willing to be audio and videotaped during simulations. Maintain confidentiality with all students, cases, training materials, and assessment data.

High school diploma or GED Applicants must interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, foster inclusion, and promote equal access and treatment for groups traditionally under-represented in higher education.
Preferred:
Associates degree; acting experience; healthcare experience,

$18-$19/hr.
