Job Description

Montclair High School is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and experienced Dance Director to lead the School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA) Dance Program. This stipend position is responsible for providing artistic leadership and supporting the continued growth and development of the program. The Dance Director will oversee the program's overall artistic vision, facilitate rehearsals and performances, coordinate with student performers and staff, and help create meaningful opportunities for students to develop their technical, creative, and performance skills. The Director will also work collaboratively with guest directors, choreographers, teaching artists, and outside professionals to expand students' exposure to diverse styles, perspectives, and professional experiences. The ideal candidate will be a strong dance educator and leader who can foster a structured, supportive, and student-centered environment that maintains high artistic expectations while encouraging creativity, collaboration, confidence, and growth.
Responsibilities may include:
Provide artistic direction and overall leadership for the SVPA Dance Program. Plan and oversee rehearsals, performances, showcases, and related program activities. Collaborate with guest artists, choreographers, directors, and professional teaching artists. Develop master classes, workshops, and other enrichment opportunities for students. Support student growth in dance technique, performance, artistry, professionalism, and collaboration. Coordinate program logistics and communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and administration. Maintain a positive, organized, and appropriately structured rehearsal environment. Support recruitment, program visibility, and continued development of the SVPA Dance Program.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience directing or teaching dance at the secondary or collegiate level; strong knowledge of dance education and performance; demonstrated leadership and organizational skills; and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and professional artists.
