Job Description

Saint Mark Church Northport Director of Music Ministry Job Description Vision Statement:

Position Summary:
The Director of Music Ministry shall be responsible for providing an overall music development plan for Traditional Worship. The Director of Music Ministry shall ensure that the music programs are an integral part of the overall ministry of the church and encourage high musical standards among all participants. The Director of Music Ministry reports to the Staff Parish Committee and the Senior Pastor. The Director of Music Ministry is a part-time position (average 20 hours per week).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee music for all traditional worship services. Direct the adult choir. Coordinate the scheduling of soloists, ensembles, instrumentalists, and guest musicians. Manage the annual music budget. Purchase music supplies and schedule tuning and maintenance of musical instruments. Oversee the purchase, filing and use of all printed church music. Lead special music events at Christmas, Easter, and other times. Work with the Senior Pastor in planning music for the traditional worship services. Participate in staff meetings and committee meetings. Recruit new members for musical groups. Give direction and provide oversight for the following paid positions:
  • Organist
  • Hand Bells
  • Pianist
  • Woodwind Choir Provide musical direction for combine services when asked.
Annual training as required. Coordinate with Children s Director and Youth Director about musical opportunities for youth and children.
Qualifications and position requirements:
Deep Commitment to Jesus. Music Degree and experience in leading choir. Effective leadership and work with pianist, organist, and other music ministry staff. Work directly with Lead Pastor (Traditional Preaching Pastor) to lead people in worship. Work closely with Lead Pastor on pastoral care issues with music ministry.
Note:
Opportunities for teaching private lessons in piano, voice, organ, and other instruments in the church facilities would be appropriate. These activities, however, would not interfere with or conflict with regular duties.
