CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:
As an assistant to the high school Band Director, the Percussion instructor coordinates the preparations, exercises, and activities of the school marching band's percussion and front ensemble unit, in addition to the planning and directing of any winter programs. The instructor prepares and directs the unit for independent performance and competition, as well as for performances integrated within the larger marching band.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Attend all rehearsals, band camps, and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals.
Instruct basic to advanced percussion rudiments and fundamentals.
Organize and lead rehearsals and sectionals.
Develop and implement the visual design of the program.
Instruct the percussion technique for battery, mallet and electronic instruments. Show design collaboration with drill writers and unit staff.
Manage audio engineering and sound design.
Repair and maintain equipment.
Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Athletic Director, Band Director, Percussion Director, Band staff, Band members, School Administration, Booster Organization, and Custodial Staff.
Recommend new equipment purchases within the budget allocations for Band Director approval.
Consultant to booster, Director and parents in areas of percussion studies within the marching arts programs.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Band Director that will provide for a successful program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED; higher education degree preferred.
Experience in the marching arts to include DCI, WGI and or high school and college marching arts is required. Experience in current marching arts technology to include sound reinforcement systems, MIDI, sound design, microphones, and live audio engineering is required.
Experience as a battery or front ensemble tech is required. Experience in the various sub groups of the unit required.
Experience in composing and choreographing routines for the various units required.
Experience working with school-aged students required; preferably at high school level.
Experience with drill writing software is preferred.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid Level I Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC).

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Moderate Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Standing for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions:
Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom or gymnasium and outdoor stadium environment including exposure to loud noise and being on your feet in extreme weather for long periods of time.

We are a comprehensive high school that enhances academics through diverse and rigorous coursework, arts and athletics to prepare students for college and career. The endeavor continues to increase student opportunities for preparation for college (AP, Dual, AVID, CTE). Each year we reevaluate the effectiveness of each program and make changes as warranted based on college and career requirements. We have increased the number of course offerings in both Advanced Placement and dual enrollment.
