Position Summary :
Our teachers are the key to our students' success. The role of our teachers is to facilitate a dynamic learning environment that engages all students in a rigorous, joyful educational experience that meets individual needs while holding all students to a high standard of performance. Our teachers collaborate with each other on an ongoing basis in their quest to continue their development and professional growth. Teachers receive regular observation, coaching, professional development, and support from the Principal and other instructional coaches.
Essential Duties:
Prepare students in fundamentals and the required music literature to participate in rehearsals, competitions, and parades. Attend all rehearsals and performances, actively participating in assisting students insectional and whole group rehearsals Hiring and supervising marching staff (ex. Colorguard) Hosting large group festivals Oversees instruction of concert band, jazz band, pep band, guitar, piano and music theory Teach marching fundamentals and drill for the competitive field program Assign large equipment responsibilities to students (drum major podium, props etc.) Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary Maintains control of storage and use of school property Work with Band Boosters Communicates with parents, teachers, and school counselors on student progress Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day Administers testing in accordance with district testing practices Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities Supports the development of the whole child including providing regular opportunities for social-emotional learning and character education. Complies with all applicable state and federal laws and district policies.
Education and Certification:
  • Colorado Teaching License with music endorsement required.
  • Director will be required to complete a background check, alll CHSAA required training, and become certified to drive a school vehicle through the Montezuma-Cortez RE-1 Transportation Department.
Experience and Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Instructional leadership experience preferred
  • High level of personal organization and planning
