Aug 17, 2026 Job Description Position Overview Mormon Trail Community School District is seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused educator to serve as our K-12 Band and Vocal Music Teacher. This position provides an opportunity to work with students across all grade levels while developing and leading instrumental and vocal music programs that are valued by our school and community. The successful candidate will inspire student participation, foster a love of music, and provide meaningful performance opportunities throughout the school year. Essential Responsibilities Provide music instruction to students in grades K-12. Direct elementary, middle school, and high school vocal music programs. Direct beginning, middle school, and high school instrumental music programs. Prepare students for concerts, festivals, contests, and community performances. Foster positive relationships with students, families, and community members. Maintain a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to support student success. Utilize technology and instructional strategies that enhance student learning. Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with students and families. Participate in district professional development and school improvement initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain appropriate Iowa licensure through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE). Mormon Trail welcomes applications from: Fully licensed music educators. Individuals pursuing alternative licensure pathways. Individuals with significant music-related professional experience who may qualify for state-approved authorization or licensure programs. Recent changes to Iowa licensure pathways have expanded opportunities for individuals with relevant professional experience to enter the teaching profession. Candidates with backgrounds in music performance, private instruction, directing, worship leadership, community music programs, or related fields are encouraged to apply. District administration is committed to assisting qualified candidates in exploring available licensure options through the Iowa BOEE. Preferred Qualifications Experience directing both instrumental and vocal music programs. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students and families. Commitment to student growth and educational excellence.
