Job Description

Director of Worship Arts Job Description Mission statement:
Love God, Serve Others and Transform Lives Through Christ Job Title :
Director of Worship Arts Position Status :
Full Time 40 hours per week. Job Duties/Responsibilities Worship Oversight The Director of Worship Arts is responsible for overseeing all facets of each worship service at Salina First United Methodist Church. This includes providing leadership and direction to worship personnel and teams, ensuring that every aspect of worship is thoughtfully planned and executed. The Director manages the setup and organization of worship spaces, such as stage and altar table arrangements, and supervises the technical components necessary for each worship service. A worship leader is more than a musician or coordinator-they serve as a spiritual leader who help guide the congregation into meaningful worship. This role bridges the gap between musical execution and spiritual direction. Weekly Worship Leadership The Director helps plan, in cooperation with the music staff, and prepares musical selections for worship, actively recruits, mentors, and develops members of the worship teams, and coordinates guest participants for worship services. Collaboration with the pastor is essential in establishing the order of worship, utilizing software like Planning by Worship Tools. The Director, with the music staff, organizes special music for services, researches and introduces new music and resources to enhance the worship experience, and arranges substitute musical leadership when needed. Worship is led with spiritual sensitivity and awareness of the Holy Spirit. Worship Team Leadership Utilizing Planning by Worship Tools, the Director, working with the Choir Director, coordinates worship team schedules and communications, prepares and distributes musical charts to facilitate effective rehearsals, and provides instructional music videos for new selections. Regular weekly rehearsals are conducted fostering a supportive, small-group environment within the worship team. The Director cultivates a vision focused on genuine worship, rather than performance, among team members. Coordinates Audio/Video/Lighting (AVL) and Online Services The Director oversees Audio/Video/Lighting (AVL) and online worship services by recruiting and training individuals for relevant responsibilities, programming and managing weekly online worship services, and maintaining and updating all AVL equipment. Lighting cues are configured to support worship, and appropriate audio mixing is ensured for each service. The Director creates engaging worship slides using Pro-Presenter and sets up camera operations and settings for optimal service recording and streaming. Additional Worship Events Coordination and participation in special worship events, such as Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Services, Ash Wednesday, and Holy Week services, are managed by the Director. Musical and/or Audio/Video/Lighting (AVL) assistance is provided for funerals, weddings and other special events as required. Additional Responsibilities The Director supervises the production staff producing, recording, and editing videos to support worship services, engages in ongoing training for personal inspiration, education, and professional development, and evaluates new music, personnel, and technological innovations to ensure continual improvement. Qualifications A bachelor s degree and/or corresponding experience provides an additional advantage. While not a requirement, a formal degree in music is encouraged. Maintains a growing relationship with Jesus and aligns with Salina First's doctrinal standards and theological views. Demonstrates strong teamwork and leadership skills. Capable of innovating, initiating, organizing, completing, and following up on tasks. Possesses excellent interpersonal abilities and has proven success working with musicians, staff and volunteers. Able to recruit new members and mentor future leaders. Excels in both written and verbal communication, manages conflicts effectively, and demonstrates proficiency in computer skills. Knowledge of Planning by Worship Tools helpful. Shows motivation to continually study and develop expertise relevant to areas of responsibility. Open and willing to learn. Accountability Accountable to the lead pastor for supervision and evaluation. Must maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
