AM Description:
This part-time String Ensemble Director will lead one of BMP's new string ensembles at Hernandez Elementary School. Each ensemble isprised of students with a specific playing level, from beginners (1-2 years on instruments, K1/K2) to advanced (5-6 years on instruments, sixth/seventh grade). The String Ensemble Director will follow the BMP Curriculum and work in collaboration with Teaching Artists to select repertoire, plan daily lessons, prepare for concerts, and ensure that students learn appropriate strings technique, music notation, and orchestra culture. Additionally, as BMP equally supports social development and musical growth, the String Ensemble Director will ensure that social-emotional skills are developed within the fabric of rehearsals and sectionals, including, but not limited to, leadership, kindness, self-control, and perseverance. The String Ensemble Director will work with all BMP staff and teachers to ensure the highest quality learning experience for all students. String Ensemble Director Responsibilities:
Lead a string orchestra of 10-20 students Teach orchestra repertoire, strings technique, music theory, and social development; context for lessons includes orchestra rehearsals, instrument sectionals, and small-group lessons Collaborate with administrative staff and Teaching Artists to create weekly ensemble goals Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about ensemble updates, student progress and behavior management plans with support from the Site Coordinator Assist Site Coordinator in implementing mid-year and end-of-year assessments for students Attend all staff meetings and professional development opportunities offered through the program Attend all concerts andmunity events/performances for your ensemble
Qualifications:
2+ years experience leading youth orchestras & teaching young string players in a group setting Strong knowledge of string pedagogy, repertoire, technique and curriculum development Strong teaching and classroom management skills, education background/degree preferred Knowledge of El Sistema's philosophy of social change through music instruction Passion for teaching and willingness to go above-and-beyond to ensure success for all students Strong interpersonal, professional, andmunication skills Position Commitment and Compensation Monday through Friday, 7:00AM-8:30AM Attend staff meetings, team meetings, & professional development sessions Staff & support 2 student concerts per year (December and June) 10 month contract, September 2026 through June 2027•Aligns with BPS calendar with all major religious and cultural holidays observed $42-46 hourly rate based on role, responsibility and experience, no health benefits Mustply with all
