Job Description
Saint Mary Parish is looking for a person with a love for music and the Catholic faith and an interest in being part of the church community with a long-term commitment in mind. Our vision is a clear, sustainable plan to grow the church's music ministry into a multilayered program that serves worship, choir, and community engagement. This is an on-site position at the parish office in Georgetown-Rowley. Position The Parish engages the Musician as a Church Pianist, Music Director to provide musical leadership for Cantors, instrumentalist, designated liturgies and parish events (i.e. 1 st Communion, Confirmation, Easter, Christmas, Missions, and Holy Days.) We have 4 weekend Masses a week at our 2 locations, Georgetown and Rowley. Driving between the 2 locations will be a necessity, approximately 5 miles apart. Duties and Responsibilities Be responsible for your music accompaniment for all scheduled Masses. Lead and support congregational singing. Select appropriate preludes, postludes, and instrumental music for each Mass. Arrive 1/2- hour before Mass for cantor rehearsal weekly as needed. Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and a prayerful presence. Follow all liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Church and the Archdiocese of Boston. Represent the Parish mission and values and all the musical duties. Collaborate with existing Cantors while recruiting, building and conducting a parish choir for the Sunday Masses. Responsible for hiring substitute musician if unable to attend scheduled Mass. Maintain a Music budget as provided by the parish. Funerals and Weddings are an additional stipend. Music Director is responsible for handling the planning for each and providing musicians. Professional Conduct The Musician agrees to: Maintain a respectful and collaborative relationship with clergy, staff, and volunteers. Uphold the teachings and values of the Catholic Church. Adhere to all Archdiocese of Boston policies, including Safe Environment requirements (e.g., CORI, Protecting God's Children training).
