Brockton High School Senior Jazz Band Director Position Overview We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and passionate Senior Jazz Band Director to lead our senior jazz ensemble. This stipend position plays a vital role in developing advanced student musicians and representing the district through multiple performances throughout the academic year. Key Responsibilities Plan and lead engaging and effective weekly rehearsals Develop students advanced jazz performance skills and ensemble cohesion Select appropriate and challenging jazz repertoire Prepare students for high-quality performances Oversee concert logistics including setup and breakdown as needed Maintain a safe and supportive rehearsal environment Collaborate with music department staff, school administration, and community leaders Qualifications Experience directing high school or advanced-level jazz ensembles Strong background in jazz performance, theory, and pedagogy Demonstrated ability to teach and inspire student musicians Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills Reliable attendance and commitment to all rehearsals and performances Time Commitment Approximately 145 hours of work from June through April Performance Responsibilities The Senior Jazz Band performs 810 concerts throughout the year, which include school and community events. Community event performances vary from year to year. It is the responsibility of the Senior Jazz Band Director to identify, coordinate, and organize these performance opportunities. In addition, the Senior Jazz Band performs at the following: Holiday Pops Concert (December) Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE) Festival (February/ March) All City Jazz Concert (April)
