Director of Vocal Music Description:
Position Summary The Director of Vocal Music at Newton Country Day School is responsible for overseeing the vocal music program for students in grades 5-12. This position involves developing and implementing aprehensive curriculum that fosters musical growth, creativity, and performance skills in our students. The director will lead vocal ensembles, while integrating music theory, collaborate closely with the Arts faculty to coordinate performances, and ensure a nurturing environment that encourages all students to develop their vocal talents. They will be tasked with choosing a varied repertory for the Advent Vespers Services in the winter, as well as for the Upper School Festival of the Arts and Middle School Celebration of the Arts concerts in the spring. In addition, they will assist in preparing students for the fall Upper School Musical and winter Middle School musical. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a vocal music curriculum that aligns with the school's mission and educational goals. Lead and conduct vocal ensembles, including choirs and and advise other vocal groups such as the A Cappella Committee. Assist in preparing students to cantor for weekly Chapel services Integrate music theory and group vocal technique to students of varying skill levels. Organize and direct performances, including concerts, recitals, andmunity events. Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate music into the broader educational experience. Provide individualized instruction and feedback to students to enhance their vocal skills. Maintainmunication with parents regarding students' progress and uing events. Assist inanizing auditions and manage student participation in various music festivals andpetitions, such as MMEA. Stay current with vocal music trends and educational practices to continually improve the program. Work alongside the Musical Theatre Team to prepare and produce two annual musical productions. Oversee hiring of professional musicians on an as needed basis to provide apaniment for a variety of performances and school events such as concerts, musical productions, and special religious services.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Minimum of (2) years previous experience teaching vocal music and directing vocal ensembles in an educational setting. Strong interpersonal andmunication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. Proficiency in piano. Strong sight-reading andan skills are highly desirable.
