We have a strong focus on music, community outreach, service, social justice and faith formation. We are an open and affirming congregation and welcoming to all. The Director of Music Position We seek a creative Director of Music who will continue and grow our strong musical traditions, working collaboratively with the pastor, worship team, faith formation, staff, and members to support the spiritual growth of the congregation and bringing sacred and spiritual music to life for all. They will use their positive attitude to invite, engage, and equip our multigenerational congregation to glorify God through music.
Responsibilities:
Build a comprehensive music program that educates and engages all church members in the life of the church, children, youth, adults and musicians. Direct the adult Chancel Choir and other musical ensembles for participation in Sunday and special services throughout the program year - Sunday after Labor Day in September through the first Sunday in June. Participate in and provide leadership for music ministry through special programs and initiatives, including seasonal, summer and outreach activities. Plan worship music with clergy and worship leaders at weekly meetings, with a focus on the liturgical calendar Recruit and hire supplemental and guest musicians as needed Engage the Congregation, children and youth in the music ministry Purchase choral and instrumental music as needed, maintain the music library, and adhere to copyright law Coordinate maintenance and acquisition of musical instruments Manage the budget for music ministries, working with the treasurer and pastor Provide written updates as needed for the weekly newsletter and other communication forums, to keep the congregation informed of opportunities related to music ministries Supervise and coordinate schedules with other part-time music staff Perform other appropriate duties, as needed and assigned Coordinate musical offerings during summer services, June-August and special programs
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in church music Demonstrated knowledge of the use of music in worship Keyboard instrument proficiency required Handbell or organ experience is a plus Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and perspectives Flexibility and openness to change and new ideas Computer competency Available Sunday mornings for worship and Wednesday evenings for rehearsal and for special events as needed as well as regular meetings with staff and ministry teams.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary - $23,400 12-month position, average of 10-12 hrs/week (more during the holiday seasons and less in the summer - Wednesday evenings during the school year are required, and Sunday mornings)
