Catholic Mass Music Director $50 per hour | Part-time | Keesler AFB, Mississippi Can you lead worship music with warmth, confidence, and a strong understanding of Catholic tradition? Are you an experienced musician who can bring hymns, service music, and choral selections together for a meaningful Sunday Mass? The role Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi is seeking a Catholic Mass Music Director to support weekly worship at the 81st Training Wing Chapel. This part-time 1099 contract pays $50 per hour and requires approximately 1.5 to 2 hours each week. It includes one rehearsal and one Sunday Mass, plus authorized special services.
Key Responsibilities You will:
Direct instrumental, vocal, and accompaniment music for Catholic Mass Lead rehearsals and guide hymns, service music, and choral selections Coordinate music with the Catholic chaplain and Mass musician Prepare selections at least two weeks before each service Support seasonal programs and special services Read sheet music and improvise where appropriate Set up and safely store instruments, microphones, stands, and cables Follow copyright and chapel licensing procedures The Benefits Limited weekly hours One rehearsal and one Sunday service each week Chapel instruments, equipment, and workspace provided Potential contract term of up to five years The person You will need at least two years of experience as a musician, with the ability to play piano, organ, or acoustic guitar. Experience directing worship music in a Catholic church or chapel is required, preferably within the last five years and in a traditional worship setting. You must understand Catholic teachings and worship practices and be able to read sheet music. A bachelor's degree in a ministry-related field is required. Active attendance at a Catholic church or chapel and a current pastoral endorsement are also required. You must communicate clearly in English and be comfortable completing tasks with limited supervision. Your musical ability will be assessed through an audition and interview before the contract is awarded.
