Full Job Description Purpose:
Faith's Organist/Choir Director serves as a key leader in the worship life of the church with primary responsibility for the traditional worship services. He/she provides coordination of musicians, senior choir, and special music for traditional and festival worship services while serving as organist and senior choir director. Working collaboratively with the Pastor and Director of Parish Music (DPM), the Organist/Choir Director helps ensure that all music reflects the truth of God's Word and the rich liturgical and musical heritage of the Lutheran Church.
Organist Responsibilities:
Worship Leadership 1. Provide organ music for all assigned Sunday traditional worship services. 2. Prepare and perform preludes, postludes, liturgical music, hymns, and accompaniments. 3. Play for additional festival services, including but not limited to Christmas Eve/Day services, Midweek Lenten services, Holy Week services, and other special worship services as assigned. Special Services 1. Serve as one of the available keyboardists for weddings and funerals when available. Compensation for these services is separate. Worship Planning 1. Collaborate with the Pastor and Director of Parish Music in: a. Selecting hymns for traditional worship. b. Choosing liturgical settings and service music. c. Planning special services such as Lessons and Carols, installation services, and anniversary celebrations. Instrument Maintenance 1. In partnership with the Director of Parish Music, oversee the care and maintenance of the church organ, harpsichord, and related keyboard instruments. Substitutes 1. Arrange for qualified substitutes when unavailable for scheduled services and communicate plans promptly to the Director of Parish Music.
Choir Director Responsibilities:
Senior Choir Leadership 1. Recruit, direct, and encourage participation in Faith's Senior Choir. 2. Lead regular rehearsals, typically up to three times per month. 3. Prepare the choir to sing in worship approximately two to three times per month. 4. Select choral music that supports the appointed Scripture readings and themes of worship. Choir Administration 1. Maintain the choral music library and related database. 2. Purchase music and supplies within the approved budget. 3. Coordinate volunteer assistance for robe care, music filing, and library organization. 4. Arrange for qualified substitutes when necessary and communicate plans promptly to the Director of Parish Music.
Special Music Responsibilities:
1. Recruit and coordinate instrumentalists and/or vocalists for traditional worship services on Sundays when the Senior Choir is not singing. 2. Schedule and lead rehearsals as needed. 3. In coordination w/ the Director of Parish Music, Arrange for paid musicians for festival services and other special occasions within the approved budget. 4. Assist the Director of Parish Music as needed in planning and executing Faith's annual concert series and other special musical events. Administration 1. Attend weekly staff meetings about once per month based on subject matter and need. Attended meetings to be agreed upon by the Pastor and DPM. 2. Attend annual congregational meeting (February). 3. Attend periodic Music and Worship Team meetings. Accountability 1. This position will report to the Pastor and DPM and is accountable to the Faith Leadership Board and congregation. Qualifications Education & Experience 1. Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, Sacred Music Certification, or equivalent experience preferred. 2. Previous experience as a church organist and choir director. 3. Experience working with volunteers and ensembles. Skills & Personal Qualifications 1. Proficiency in organ and piano performance. 2. Strong hymn-leading and accompaniment skills. 3. Sensitivity to Lutheran liturgical worship and the Church Year. 4. Ability to recruit and encourage volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists at their skill level. 5. Demonstrates a heart for worship and a desire to use music to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. 6. Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. 7. Strong leadership and communication skills. 8. Commitment to Faith's mission to help God's people "Connect, Grow, and Serve" together in the name of Jesus! Time Commitment 1. Avg. of 15 hours per week 2. Regular Sunday morning commitment. 3. Participation in festival and special worship services throughout the Church Year. Compensation 1. $20-30 per hour; contingent upon education and experience. 2. Weddings & funerals compensated separately according to the church's fee schedule.

$20.00 - $30.00 per hour
