Job Description
Tustin Presbyterian Church is seeking a skilled and collaborative Chancel Choir Director to lead our established adult choir and support a vibrant worship ministry. The Chancel Choir Director provides leadership for the church's Chancel Choir and music ministry, working closely with the Pastor to support worship through meaningful and theologically appropriate music. The Director leads weekly rehearsals and Sunday worship, supervises choir personnel, and helps create engaging worship experiences that complement Scripture, liturgy, and preaching. Primary Responsibilities Worship & Music Leadership Collaborate with the Pastor in planning worship music that supports weekly Scripture readings, sermons, and seasonal themes. Select and coordinate musical elements for worship, including hymns, congregational music, choir anthems, offertory music, and special services. Participate in staff meetings, worship planning meetings, and seasonal worship preparation. Assist with music planning for baptisms, ordinations, weddings, funerals, memorial services, and other special services. Plan and conduct up to three choral special events during the church year. Maintain a balanced repertoire including traditional hymns, psalms, contemporary worship music, and gospel selections consistent with PC(USA) theology and TPC worship practices. Choir Leadership Plan, prepare, and lead weekly Chancel Choir rehearsals from September through Pentecost, with a modified summer schedule. Direct the Chancel Choir in Sunday worship and special services. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant choir culture. Personnel & Administration Supervise the Organist, Section Leaders (SATB), soloists, and choir volunteers. Recruit, train, schedule, and support choir participants. Coordinate and, when approved, engage substitute musicians and instrumentalists as needed. Manage the Chancel Choir budget in coordination with church leadership. Maintain clear communication regarding schedules, rehearsals, and ministry activities. Qualifications Master's degree in Music with an emphasis in choral music preferred, or equivalent church choir directing experience. Experience directing adult choirs and coordinating vocalists and instrumentalists. Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills. Proficiency in English. Additional Information Part-time position averaging 12 hours per week; schedule varies seasonally.
