Job Description
Overview A Worship Leader serves as a spiritual and musical leader for the congregation. This anointed musician and minister plans and leads worship services that are Biblical, Christ-centered, and Holy Spirit driven. They work closely with the pastor and church leadership to create meaningful worship experiences. A Worship Leader encourages congregational participation to foster spiritual growth, contrite hearts, and a reverence for the Triune God. This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor and serves under the authority of the Executive Board. Duties Worship Planning and Leadership Plan and lead weekly worship services in cooperation with the pastor. Select music that aligns with Scripture, keeping in mind the message series and/or the liturgical calendar. Lead congregational singing and/or playing with humility, spiritual maturity, and talent. Incorporate both traditional hymns and theologically sound contemporary worship music as appropriate for the congregation. Help coordinate special music for holidays, revivals, and other church events. Music Ministry Oversight Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteer musicians and vocalists. Schedule and lead regular rehearsals. Help coordinate musical events and special musical artists throughout the year. Maintain a Church Musical Calendar which incorporates various church choirs (I.e. hand bell and adult choir) Work closely with the Children's Music Director and Day School Director to create musical opportunities for holidays and major church events. Foster a Christ-centered, servant-hearted culture within the worship ministry. Ensure that all music and worship elements are prepared and presented with excellence. Spiritual Leadership Model an honest, humble, and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Actively seek a Paul(a spiritual leader) and a Timothy(a disciple) to walk alongside in the Christian faith. Encourage worship team members in their spiritual development. Support the mission, vision, and values of Atlanta Methodist. Participate in church life and ministry beyond Sunday services as appropriate. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain worship schedules and music resources. Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and church leadership. Assist with audio-visual and worship technology needs as required. Manage worship ministry equipment and resources responsibly. Qualifications Required A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with Biblical Christian principles. Agreement with the Church's statement of faith. Demonstrated ability to lead congregational worship vocally and musically. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, and volunteers. Preferred Experience leading worship in a local church setting. Proficiency in guitar, piano, or another lead worship instrument. Experience directing choirs, ensembles, or worship teams. Familiarity with traditional Methodist worship practices and hymnody.
