Protestant Music Director- $50.00 Per Hour (working approx 2 hours per week)- Ellsworth, AFB SD The Role Are you an experienced worship leader who can inspire a congregation through contemporary Protestant music? Do you have the musical ability and leadership skills to build, direct, and encourage a thriving praise team? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. We are seeking a Protestant Music Director to support the Protestant community at Ellsworth Air Force Base. This is a rewarding contract position offering approximately two hours per week on average, with compensation of $50 per hour , depending on experience. You'll work closely with the Wing Chaplain and chapel leadership to create meaningful worship experiences while helping build a welcoming and engaging music ministry. You will lead rehearsals, weekly worship services, and special services throughout the year. You'll organize music, direct the praise team, lead the congregation in worship, and help create an uplifting atmosphere that supports the chapel's mission. This is a 1099 contract with a one-year base period , plus four optional extension years and an optional six-month extension .
Key Responsibilities:
Lead contemporary Protestant worship services and rehearsals. Build, schedule, and direct a praise team, including musicians and sound support. Select and prepare music in coordination with the Chaplain. Provide vocal leadership during worship services. Recruit, coordinate, and encourage volunteer musicians. Prepare audio/visual lyrics for services. Help maintain music resources and submit equipment repair or purchase requests when needed. Attend meetings relating to the chapel music program. Ensure facilities are set up, restored, and secured following rehearsals and services. Arrange qualified coverage for approved absences when required. The Benefits $50 per hour, based on experience. The Person:
To succeed as our Protestant Music Director , you should have: Four or more years of college-level music education or equivalent church music leadership experience. Experience leading contemporary Protestant worship. Strong vocal ability and confidence leading congregational singing. The ability to sight-read, arrange, score, and perform music. Experience organizing and leading worship teams. Excellent communication skills in English. The ability to build positive relationships with volunteers. The ability to successfully complete all required background screening.
