Founded in 1799, we've been part of this community for over two centuries—and we're still just as passionate about living out our mission to seek first the Kingdom of God and make disciples of Jesus Christ to transform the world. We're currently seeking a Leader of Modern Music Worship who shares our heart for ministry and our desire to make our little corner of Williamson County look as much like the Kingdom of Heaven as possible. DESCRIPTION
The 3,000 member Franklin First United Methodist Church (FFUMC) has a dynamic, multi-faceted music ministry that seeks to draw people closer to God through the power of worship. The Leader of Modern Music Worship plays a key role in this mission by providing vocal and instrumental leadership for ourmodern worship services and creating an environment where all can experience God's presence. Working closely with the Director of Music Ministries and the Senior Leadership Team, this person helps plan and lead meaningful, Spirit-filled worship that reflects the mission and vision of Franklin First. The Leader of Modern Music Worship also nurtures and equips volunteer musicians, fostering a culture of musical excellence, teamwork, and heartfelt worship. This position is for a passionate worshiper and gifted leader who desires to help others encounter Christ through music and to serve as part of a dynamic, Christ-centered ministry team. This description is not intended to include every detail of the position, but rather to outline its primary responsibilities and expectations. The Leader of Modern Music Worship may be asked to assist with other duties as needed to support the mission and ministry of FFUMC. All responsibilities should be carried out in a manner consistent with the church's mission and vision, and in alignment with the beliefs of the United Methodist Church as expressed in the Book of Discipline .
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Worship Leadership 1. Lead worship vocally and/or instrumentally for the two weekly modern worship services, where attendance averages 200. 2. Plan, rehearse, and lead meaningful Sunday worship experiences that honor God and draw the congregation into deeper connection with God. 3. Select music and lyrics that inspire worship, are theologically sound, spiritually engaging, and consistent with United Methodist (Wesleyan) worship traditions and theology. 4. Facilitate spiritually engaging modern worship services that reflect the mission and vision of the church. 5. Serve as accompanist for modern services as needed. Team Development 1. Recruit, schedule, mentor, and develop praise band members, integrating music teams across the church's ministries. 2. Foster a culture of community, excellence, and spiritual growth among the praise band. 3. Communicate respectfully and effectively with musicians, staff, and congregants. Technology and Media 1. Use Planning Center Online (PCO) to coordinate worship elements and schedule band members and vocalists. 2. In collaboration with the Media Director, make use of worship technology including Ableton Live, MultiTracks, ProPresenter, Planning Center Online, and related systems. 3. Prepare worship lyrics and manage all necessary copyright licensing for praise songs for modern worship and special services, utilizing Planning Center Online. Spiritual Leadership 1. Lead weekly worship rehearsals that are both musically productive and spiritually formative. 2. Exhibit a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and demonstrate a mature, Spirit-led life consistent with United Methodist (Wesleyan) worship traditions and theology. 3. Encourage and nurture the spiritual lives of team members. 4. Support the broader mission and vision of the church through active participation and collaboration with other ministries. Administration 1. Collaborate weekly (or as needed) with the Director of Music Ministries. 2. Prepare and distribute music charts for the praise band each week. 3. Submit required reports to Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI). 4. Plan, prepare, and present inspiring music for special worship services and events throughout the church year, including Christmas, Easter, and other high times of the church season. In coordination with the Senior Leadership team, this may include performance by other church ensembles (Handbell Choir, Children's Choir, others)
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
1. Demonstrates strong vocal ability with the skill to confidently lead worship while accompanying on an instrument (guitar preferred), creating an engaging and authentic worship experience. 2. Demonstrates strong understanding and practical experience with current worship technologies, including Planning Center Online for service planning and team coordination, ProPresenter for lyric and media presentation, and MultiTracks/Ableton Live for managing click tracks, stems, and live performance integration. 3. Maintains a broad and current knowledge of modern worship music, styles, and trends to lead relevant and spiritually impactful worship experiences. 4. Proven ability to lead the congregation in spiritually engaging, theologically rich, and musically excellent worship. 5. Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent professional experience in the field. 6. Demonstrates proficiency in music theory with the ability to arrange, chart, and adapt music effectively for diverse worship team settings. 7. Commitment to continual growth, both musically and spiritually, with a servant-leader heart. 8. Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills. 9. Evidence of a consistent, active, and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. 10. Deep understanding of the spiritual and pastoral aspects of worship leadership. 11. Familiarity with United Methodist (Wesleyan) worship traditions and theology.
