ROLE AND PURPOSE
Provide instruction to students in order to develop the skills and ability to excel in chosen area of music. Contribute to music program as a whole and to the individual growth of students involved in music.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree Valid Texas teaching certificate or eligible for alternative certification
Experience:
Successful experience as music teacher or participation in an applicable music program
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
INSTRUCTIONAL
MANAGEMENT
Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student musician in the program assigned. Manage and assist music activities, contests and rehearsals to promote individual growth in musical skills. Work with other members of staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure overall educational development of student musicians. Assist in establishing performance criteria for ensemble and individual competition and evaluate student's musical abilities initially and on a regular basis. Significant knowledge of teaching techniques and procedures Ability to instruct and supervise students at either or both the secondary and elementary level.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
Take all prudent and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules and regulations. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills Assist in working with appropriate campus administration to schedule and coordinate events.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
Assist in developing and maintain an evaluation of the music program and make changes based on assessment.
ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Assist in selection of appropriate equipment and instructional materials. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records, entry forms and other required documents. Assist in maintaining a current inventory of all fixed assets applicable to the program. Assist in overseeing the process of cleaning, repairing and storing all applicable equipment.
STUDENT MANAGEMENT
Properly supervise students during all applicable events. Establish and consistently enforce student discipline during performances, rehearsals, contests and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook. Encourage and promote, by instruction and positive example, proper conduct in all phases in contest and performance participation.
SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Establish and maintain open and productive communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators and teachers.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Actively engage in life-long learning.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None
MISCELLANEOUS
Maintain emotional control under stress. Districtwide and area wide travel for various performances and contests. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Possible outdoor exposure to sun and heat (most applicable to high school band positions).
