Position Summary:
The Director of Music & Worship provides spiritual, musical, and organizational leadership for the worship ministry of Vista Ridge United Methodist Church. The Director works closely with the Senior Pastor, staff, and volunteers to plan and lead meaningful, theologically sound, and musically excellent worship experiences. The Director provides leadership for the Sunday worship service, praise team, handbell ministry, and special worship services while recruiting, developing, and encouraging volunteers to use their gifts in worship.Minimum Requirements:
- Demonstrated Christian faith and commitment to the mission and ministry of the church, with sensitivity to the United Methodist tradition.
- Strong background in Christian music and worship, including familiarity with both contemporary and traditional expressions.
- Experience leading congregational worship, musical ensembles, or worship teams.
- Strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail, strong communication and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Functional keyboard skills - able to play for sectionals and rehearsals
- Working knowledge of choral rehearsal techniques and conducting
- Basic knowledge of copyright laws as they relate to choral church music
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the Senior Pastor, staff, musicians, volunteers, and congregation.
- Basic computer and worship-technology skills, or willingness to learn.
- Commitment to church safety and Ministry Safe policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, provide and lead music and worship for Sunday worship and special services that include, but are not limited to Advent, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Palm Sunday, Easter and other special services as determined by the Senior Pastor.
- Recruit, develop, encourage, and work effectively with volunteers of varied ages specifically children's involvement in music during worship and musical backgrounds.
- Select music and lead rehearsals that supports the theme, message, season, and overall purpose of worship.
- Lead, coordinate, plan and develop the musical portions of worship and help create an environment that encourages meaningful participation and connection with God in partnership with the Senior Pastor and worship leadership.
- Encourage the development of additional musical gifts and opportunities as appropriate to the church's needs.
- Arrange for substitutes or guest musicians when necessary.
- Provide music, worship, and other service information needed for bulletins, church communications, or presentation materials.
- Attend staff, worship planning, and other meetings as appropriate.
- Develop and manage the annual music and worship budget within the approved budget.
- Maintain the church's music library and coordinate the maintenance, tuning, and repair of musical instruments. Maintain appropriate music licensing and copyright practices requirements.
- Provide musical and worship leadership while allowing the Sound/AV Technician to manage day-to-day technical production and equipment responsibilities.
